Several elite university presidents spoke before Congress Tuesday, including UPenn President Liz Magill, Harvard University President Claudine Gay and Massachusetts Insitute of Technology President Sally Kornbluth, and they refused to answer whether calling for genocide against Jews on campus was a violation of their codes of conduct. Ross Stevens, founder and CEO of Stone Ridge Asset Management, decided to pull his donation Thursday, alleging that the school violated the terms of the donation by violating anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policies, according to Axios.

“Its permissive approach to hate speech calling for violence against Jews and laissez faire attitude toward harassment and discrimination against Jewish students would violate any policies of rules that prohibit harassment and discrimination based on religion, including those of Stone Ridge,” Stevens wrote in a letter to the university.

Large donors have been withdrawing from elite universities following their responses to antisemitism on campus.

Jon Huntsman Jr., a UPenn alumnus with an estimated net worth of $1 billion condemned the university’s “silence” regarding Hamas’ attack against Israel and halted donations to UPenn. Magill did not refer to Hamas as a terrorist organization until after prominent donor Huntsman said his family would stop donating to the university.

The Wexner Foundation, founded by billionaire Leslie Wexner, stopped donating to Harvard University following the university’s response.

Both Magill and Gay backtracked on their statements on that hearing and clarified that calling for the genocide of Jews is not acceptable on campus following backlash, including from the White House.

A “small number” of antisemitic threats on campus to university staff resulted in Penn contacting the FBI to investigate the matter.

Over 30 student organizations at Harvard University signed a letter blaming Israel for the Hamas terrorist attacks on Oct. 7, causing uproar. Gay released a statement later in October saying that the students did not speak for the university but that the organizations had a right to free speech.

UPenn did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

Samuels previously challenged Omar in August 2022, a race in which he was narrowly defeated, garnering 48.2% support to Omar’s 50.3%. Samuels called Omar, a member of the ‘Squad,’ divisive and believes a more moderate option is needed, according to the AP.

“Our congresswoman has a predilection to divisiveness and conflict,” Samuels told the AP.

“She has frightened the Jewish community,” Samuels told the AP. He further pointed to a “latent and lurking antisemitic sentiment that always needs discouragement, and always in times of national crisis raises its ugly head.”

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi offered a late endorsement to Omar in the 2022 race, but the Jamaican-born Samuels also received significant endorsement from local officials in Minneapolis.

“The long tails of the George Floyd and COVID issues continue, with empty storefronts and empty strip malls because people don’t want to invest anymore. They don’t think it’s safe,” Samuels told the AP.

Samuels opposed defunding the police following the death of George Floyd while Omar, on the other hand, called it a “policy demand,” according to the AP.

“I’m incredibly proud of the model of cogovernance we’ve built in the 5th District, which has included monthly town halls, routine constituent service resource fairs and a brand new district office,” Omar told the Daily Caller News Foundation.  “I’ve brought over $40 million to the district in the form of community projects—including a brand new affordable housing facility for veterans in Robbinsdale that I toured this weekend.”

“As a leader of the House Budget Committee and Progressive Caucus, I’ve continued to fight for the progressive values Minnesotans sent me to advocate for—whether it’s fighting to codify Roe v. Wade into law, pushing for historic climate legislation, addressing the opioid crisis or fighting for an assault weapons ban,” Omar continued.

Other declared candidates include Democrats Sarah Gad, an attorney, Tim Peterson, a military veteran, and one Republican, Dalia Al-Aqidi, an Iraqi-American journalist, according to the AP.

The poll revealed a number of political shifts amongst Gen Z, including changing attitudes on gay marriage, feminism, political affiliation and belief in political leaders. Support for gay marriage among Gen Z fell from 80% in 2021 to 69% in 2023.

Gen Z men also appear to hold less favorable views of feminism than their Millennial counterparts; 43% of Gen Z men identify as feminists compared to 52% of millennial men, while 28% of white Gen Z men identify as liberals compared to 34% of white millennial men, according to the poll.

Among Gen Z and Millennials, only 34% of each generation said political leaders could generally be trusted, compared to 54% for Generation X and 66% of Baby Boomers, according to the poll.

The poll also revealed shifts in sexual orientation and dating life for the younger generation. 48% of Gen Z women and 29% of men identify as gay or lesbian, bisexual, or something else, according to the poll.

55% of Gen Z report using social media sites multiple times daily, compared to 39% of Generation X and 29% of Baby Boomers, according to the poll.

“Changes in technology, culture, and family life have led Generation Z to have distinct formative experiences. Compared to previous generations, Gen Z adults participated in outdoor activities less often, had fewer romantic experiences, and were much less likely to hold down a part-time job,” the poll’s authors wrote. “They have less experience participating in religious communities than any previous generation. Whether social media or video games, technology has played a much more significant role in their adolescence than for any previous generation. As technological and societal changes accelerate, the differences between generations will grow, making them more relevant.”

The poll was conducted among a random sample of 5,055 adults aged 18 and up in the United States. The poll consisted of interviews conducted between Aug. 11 and Aug. 20.

The week is hosted by Sexual Education by Harvard College Students (SEHCS), which was founded in 2012, and is taking place between Oct. 30 to Nov. 5, according to their website. Other events during the week include “Caring for Your Coochie: Healthy Vulvovaginal Practices,” “I Can See Queerly Now: Demystifying LGBTQIA+ Intimacy” and “A Different Toy Story: Sex Toys 101.”

“Every year, we’re lucky to host workshops and presentations with educators from around the country.  The Sex Week ‘sex’perts do a fabulous job teaching our community about topics that range from ‘getting cliterate,’ to the philosophy of porn, to body positivity during intimacy, and so much more,” their website reads.

Experts from the Boston’s Children’s Hospital will be headlining the “Caring for Your Coochie: Healthy Vulvovaginal Practices,” according to Harvard Sex Week’s Instagram. The SEHCS also held a “Anal 101” event on “all things anal, from safety to pleasure” on Tuesday.

“Our workshops are lead by experts in the fields of sexual health and intimacy, who ensure that each individual in attendance leaves feeling knowledgeable and empowered.  We firmly believe that it’s just as important to get an education inside the bedroom as it is inside the classroom,” the website reads.

Multiple sexual product companies including Astroglide, Boy Butter, Condomania, EmojiBator Vibrators and BananaPants, are sponsoring the events, according to the event’s website.

A group of self-identified socialists called the Democratic Socialists of America have gained membership quickly over the past few years and established themselves in major American cities.

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is gaining steam in recent years and has been pushing the Democratic Party to the left, particularly in deep blue cities, advocating for policies that even moderate Democrats disagree with.

Democratic Socialists make up the left flank of the Democratic Party, supporting abolishing prisons, aggressive climate policies, rent controls and radical racial equity policies, according to the Democratic Socialist website. They’ve been aggressively adding to their membership over the past few years, as well as gaining ground in key deep blue cities such as New York City, Los Angeles and Minneapolis, calling for radical policy changes and opposing mainstream Democrats.

The meteoric rise of the DSA came after the first presidential campaign by Democratic Socialist Bernie Sanders in 2016, according to New York Magazine. The DSA had 6,000 members in 2015 but now boasts over 80,000 members, according to DSA Communications Director Chris Kutalik Cauthern.

Big cities in blue states are havens for Democratic Socialists, with a large number of them on city councils in deep blue cities. Recent gains in these cities for Democratic Socialists have pushed the politics of blue cities to the left.

New York City is a hotbed for Democratic Socialists, with at least six of the 51 members on New York City’s city council being Democratic Socialists, according to public statements and records reviewed by the Daily Caller News Foundation. There, they’ve attacked more moderate Democrats, like Mayor Eric Adams, who has proposed budget cuts for the city and who has also criticized Democratic Socialists and been involved with Twitter feuds with Democratic Socialist New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

New York City boasts Democratic Socialist and Democratic Councilman Chi Osse who has previously said, “A cis white man should not be the next speaker of the Council” and “Don’t trust white people with 0 friends of color in their circle.”

Osse has gone after Adams’ support for the police, frequently chiding the mayor. “Mayor Adams is choosing to invest in a militarized police force rather than in evidence-based public safety strategies,” he wrote in one tweet. Osse said on the “Resistance” podcast that his motivations for becoming a city councilman were his experiences at a George Floyd protest and his desire to fight “white supremacy.”

Democratic Socialist and Democratic New York City Councilwomen Tiffany Caban opposed Adams’ 2023 budget, calling the proposed cuts “dangerous and cruel,” in opposition to more moderate Democrats.

Los Angeles has at least three Democratic Socialists of the 15 members of the Los Angeles city council, where Democratic Socialists regularly depart from the orthodoxy, many of whom vote against budget increases for police departments, such as Democratic Los Angeles Councilman Hugo Soto-Martinez and Democratic Los Angeles Councilwoman Eunisses Hernandez.

Hernandez has called for abolishing the police, shutting down prisons and the decriminalization of hard drugs, accordingto the Los Angeles Times. Meanwhile, police data showed robberies, burglaries, and thefts increasing in Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has lost nearly 1,000 officers since 2019, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Soto-Martinez and Martinez stood by the co-founder of Black Lives Matter, Patrisse Cullors, in a press conference where she called on LAPD to stop responding to minor traffic violations, according to Los Angeles Daily News. Soto-Martinez also called it a “terrible mistake” when one of his staffers called the police, asking them to patrol the area more than usual to protect his broken down Lexus, according to the Fox News.

“For all of the working class to achieve collective liberation, we must constrain, diminish, and abolish the carceral forces of the state — from prisons and police themselves,” the DSA’s website reads.

Minnesota is also a hotbed for Democratic Socialists, with four group members holding local office there and three members on the Minneapolis city council, according to public statements and records reviewed by the Daily Caller News Foundation. Members of the Twin Cities DSA, which includes the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, have pushed hard for rent control despite Democratic Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey opposing the policy, saying, “I do not support a policy that has consistently proven to be counterproductive to housing supply and affordability,” according to ABC 75 News.

The DSA also boasts five federally elected officials who identity as Democratic Socialists in the U.S. House of Representatives: Ocasio-Cortez, Minnesota Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Missouri Rep. Cori Bush, New York Rep. Jamaal Bowman and Texas Rep. Greg Casar.

Positive views of socialism are down in the U.S. despite the DSA’s recent rise in membership, with 36% of Americans saying they view socialism somewhat or very positively, down from 42% in May 2019, according to Pew Research.

Adams, Osse, Caban, Hernandez and Martinez did not immediately be reached for comment by the Daily Caller News Foundation.
