Reuters interviewed 10 undecided voters following Tuesday’s debate, with six claiming to be leaning toward or voting for Trump and three claiming they would support Vice President Kamala Harris. Those who switched toward Trump cited the state of the economy in their decision, while four of the six said Harris’ performance at the debate did not show she has different policies than President Joe Biden.
“I felt like the whole debate was Kamala Harris telling me why not to vote for Donald Trump instead of why she’s the right candidate,” Robert Wheeler, a security firm executive in Nevada, told Reuters.
“I still don’t know what she is for,” Mark Kadish, an entrepreneur in Florida, told Reuters. “There was no real meat and bones for her plans.”
Sixty-three percent of voters who watched the debate said that Harris won the debate, according to a CNN flash poll that surveyed 605 registered voters. Media pundits also praised Harris for her performance following the debate.
More undecided voters, however, were unimpressed with Harris’ responses regarding her plans for office, with several claiming they’re now considering voting for Trump, according to The New York Times.
“When Trump was in office — not going to lie — I was living way better,” she said. “I’ve never been so down as in the past four years. It’s been so hard for me.”
Samira Ali, a University of Wisconsin-Madison student still unsure who she will vote for, told the outlet that Harris “still has to impress” her.
Harris currently polls 1.1% ahead of Trump at 48.4% to his 47.3%, according to the RealClear Polling average that includes surveys from between Aug. 22 and Sept. 6.
“Kamala Harris couldn’t answer the most important question facing undecided voters in this election: are you better off under VP Kamala or were you better off under President Trump?” Karoline Leavitt, Trump campaign national press secretary, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “She refused the question because the answer is Trump. If Americans want lower taxes and inflation, a secure border, and a peaceful world, there’s only one option and it’s NOT dangerously liberal Kamala Harris.”
The Harris campaign did not immediately respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.
Shawn Thierry declared the party switch while attending the Moms for Liberty summit in Washington, D.C., noting that she cannot support some of the liberal policies like sex change surgeries for minors and stripping Title IX protections for female athletes. The Democratic representative lost in the May primaries to opponent Lauren Simmons, which kept Thierry from a fifth term, The Texas Tribune reported.
“This is not the party I grew up with,” Thierry said in a statement posted to X. “I have witnessed firsthand how the so-called ‘liberal’ left now stifles thoughtful debate, silencing dissent with an iron fist—demanding blind allegiance to ideology, where one must ‘comply or be cast out.’ This is not the Democratic Party I once supported and represented.”

“As the years have passed, I have watched with dismay as the party I once knew has drifted far from its roots,” Thierry said. “It has become almost unrecognizable—radicalized and increasingly out of touch with the values that millions of everyday Americans hold dear.”
Thierry faced significant backlash from her liberal constituents and the Democratic party for supporting a bill banning cross-sex hormones and sex change surgeries for minors, a press release accompanying Thierry’s statement notes. The representative now serves in her fourth term in the Texas Legislature.
“In 2024, the Republican Party champions economic empowerment, by investing in Historically Black colleges and universities like the one I proudly graduated from,” Thierry noted in her statement. “It’s the party of parents, believing that they have the fundamental right to determine the best educational environments for their children to learn, grow, and succeed.”
“I am leaving the left because the left has abandoned Democrats who feel betrayed by a party that has lost its way, lost its commitment to hard working families,” Thierry’s statement says.

Breed stated in the order that a recent survey “found that 40% of unsheltered people in San Francisco did not live here before arriving.” A January survey found that San Francisco had 8,323 homeless living in the city.
Breed said in the order that the city must “be more aggressive and intentional with our approach,” when dealing with the homeless individuals who “cycle in and out of city-funded programs without accountability and a clear path to securing stabilized housing and care.”
Much of the city’s homeless population are not from San Francisco, and some flock to the city because they know they will receive services, Breed noted in the order. Breed said the city “cannot continue to ask San Francisco residents to support the needs of those who travel here simply for care.”
“A lot of people come out here thinking San Francisco is going to be this wonderful state for them to live and thrive and they’re actually leaving home because they think they’re going to find something here,” Donna Hilliard, the executive director of nonprofit Code Tenderloin, told ABC 7 News.
Breed’s “journey home” program involves three directives, which include offering relocation services before offering housing, training first responders with information regarding the program and tracking those who refuse to offer the relocation services, according to the order. Breed has ordered that the directives are to be finished by September 1, 2024.
“San Francisco will always lead with compassion, but we cannot allow our compassion to be taken advantage of,” Breed stated in the order. “We will not be a city with a reputation for being able to solve the housing and behavioral health needs of people across our country.”
Breed’s office deferred the Daily Caller News Foundation to a press release.
