In contrast, “GMOs” involve changing the genetic makeup of animals, plants or microbes in ways that do not occur naturally using methods like genetic engineering.

Health risks posed by GM foods

Some notable issues related to the consumption of GM foods and products include the following:

Allergic reactions

Genetic modifications can transfer allergens from one food to another. For instance, a study published in The New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) revealed that soybeans engineered with a Brazil nut gene caused allergic reactions in people who are nut-sensitive. This led to the withdrawal of some products due to this serious risk. Without proper labeling, people with allergies can unknowingly consume these harmful ingredients.

New allergens

GM food and products might also introduce new allergens. The genetic changes can create novel proteins not previously in the human diet, potentially triggering allergic responses. Despite warnings from U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) scientists about this risk, mandatory long-term testing for new allergens is not required, leaving many consumers, especially children, at risk of severe allergic reactions.

Antibiotic resistance

GM foods and products could potentially contribute to antibiotic resistance, making it harder to treat infections. According to the Food Standards Agencymost GM foods contain “antibiotic resistance markers,” which help identify successful genetic modifications. However, introducing these markers into the food supply might render essential antibiotics, like ampicillin, ineffective against bacterial infections. This concern led several European countries, including Britain, to ban certain GM crops for fear of the spread of antibiotic resistance. Despite warnings from scientists, the FDA has continued to allow these markers in GM foods even though public health experts view them as a significant threat.

Cancer risk

In 1993, the FDA approved the use of genetically engineered recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH) to boost milk production in cows, assuring consumers of its safety. However, Canada and Europe later banned the treatment due to concerns about animal and human health. Research has shown that dairy from rBGH-treated cows has higher levels of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), a hormone linked to breast, colon and prostate cancers. While the FDA overlooked studies showing that IGF-1 can survive digestion and enter the bloodstream – increasing cancer risk – the American Cancer Society states there is no current evidence linking GMOs to cancer and more long-term research is needed.

Immunosuppression

study published in The Lancet by Dr. Arpad Pusztai and Stanley W.B. Ewen, funded by the Scottish government, investigated the effects of GM potatoes containing the biopesticide Bacillus thuringiensis (B.t.) on rats. The research found that rats consuming these potatoes experienced negative impacts on their immune function, metabolism and organ development. Although the biotechnology industry criticized Pusztai’s work, they haven’t provided any studies to disprove his findings. Additionally, 22 leading scientists have supported the validity of animal tests linking GM foods to immuno-suppression.

Loss of nutrition

Genetic engineering can reduce the nutritional value of food. In 1992, FDA scientists warned that altering foods genetically might lead to “undesirable changes in nutrient levels.” They highlighted the risk that these changes could go unnoticed without specific testing. Despite these concerns, the FDA chose not to require mandatory testing for nutritional content in GM foods.

Toxicity

GM foods are unstable by nature. The process of inserting new genes into food is unpredictable, with no way to ensure the added genetic material doesn’t create harmful effects. This randomness means that each gene insertion could potentially turn safe food into something toxic.

FDA scientists were aware of this risk before setting their policy of no mandatory testing. They warned that genetic engineering could increase known toxins, introduce new ones, or cause foods to absorb more environmental toxins, like heavy metals and pesticides. Despite these warnings, the FDA chose to ignore the potential dangers and didn’t require toxicological testing for GM foods, prioritizing industry interests over food safety.

GMOs and their environmental impact

GMOs pose several environmental risks, including:

  • Gene transfer outcrossing. There is a risk that genes from GMO crops could spread to wild plants and other crops, potentially creating unintended hybrids that could disrupt ecosystems.
  • Impact on wildlife. Introducing GMOs into the environment can harm insects and other species. For example, dominant GMO species may outcompete and displace native species, upsetting the natural balance.
  • Loss of biodiversity. The use of GM seeds, like Monsanto’s Roundup-resistant crops, can lead to reduced plant diversity. These GM seeds are designed to survive glyphosate, a pesticide that kills weeds but spares the crops. While this innovation saves farmers time and money by reducing the need for multiple pesticides, it also forces them to buy new seeds every year due to Monsanto’s patent rather than reusing seeds from previous harvests. (Related: GMOs linked to increased pesticide use and loss of biodiversity.)
  • Introduction of GM organisms. Releasing GM animals, organisms or plants into the wild can further threaten biodiversity by allowing new, more dominant species to take over. This could lead to the decline or extinction of native species.

Tips to reduce GMO exposure

  • Examine labels. While the National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard (NBFDS) mandates labels for many GMO products, certain items, like GM animal products and refined ingredients (such as oils and sugars) are not required to be labeled. Instead of relying solely on these labels, look for the Non-GMO Project Verified seal, which ensures that the product has been certified GMO-free.
  • Go organic. Opt for organic produce as organic farming regulations strictly ban the use of GMOs in animal feeds, crops and seeds. Choosing organic is a reliable way to avoid GMOs in your diet.
  • Cook your meals. Preparing meals at home with organic ingredients allows you to reduce your exposure to GMOs, which are common in processed and restaurant foods.
  • Support local farmers. Shopping at local farmers’ markets can help you avoid GMOs, as many small-scale farmers use traditional, non-GMO seeds. However, it is a good idea to ask farmers directly about their farming practices to ensure you’re buying GMO-free produce.
  • Limit consumption of processed foods. Processed and ultra-processed foods often contain GMO-derived ingredients, like emulsifiers, oils and sweeteners. To minimize GMO intake, reduce your consumption of these foods which may not disclose their GMO content.
  • Stay informed. Refer to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) bioengineered food list to identify foods that are likely to contain GMOs. This can help you to make informed choices at the grocery store or supermarket.

13 Survival Tips to Effectively Prepare for Biological Threats https://americanconservativemovement.com/13-survival-tips-to-effectively-prepare-for-biological-threats/ https://americanconservativemovement.com/13-survival-tips-to-effectively-prepare-for-biological-threats/#respond Tue, 01 Oct 2024 11:13:07 +0000 https://americanconservativemovement.com/13-survival-tips-to-effectively-prepare-for-biological-threats/ (Natural News)—When faced with biological threats – whether from natural outbreaks or bioterrorism – being prepared and knowing how to respond can be crucial for survival. Each type of threat poses unique challenges, but understanding these risks and having a plan can significantly enhance your safety and survival.

Biological attacks can involve two main types of agents (pathogens or toxins that can harm animals, crops or humans) – contagious and non-contagious. Some agents, such as anthrax, can survive in the environment for extended periods – increasing the risk of exposure. Notably, many biological attacks may go unrecognized for days, as the incubation period can delay symptoms.

To effectively prepare for biological threats, consider the following survival tips:

Stay informed

Always monitor trusted sources. Regularly check official information channels for updates and guidance during emergencies. Engage with community programs that promote awareness of potential threats. Avoid misinformation; be wary of “rumors” and stick to reliable sources to make informed decisions.

Build a survival stockpile

Regularly monitor and update your essential supplies inventory – food, water, pantry, first aid and medical supplies, hygiene and sanitation, heat and lighting and communications.

Create a safe zone at home

Fortify your home by identifying its weaknesses and designating safe rooms that will reduce exposure risk. Keep a supply kit in your safe room. To minimize air contamination, use plastic sheeting, duct tape and towels.  Install high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters in your home to capture biological agents.

Plan and implement quarantine and isolation

If you develop symptoms or have contact with infected individuals, self-isolate immediately. Keep healthy individuals in your home separate from those showing signs of illness – using separate rooms and bathrooms if feasible.

Use personal protective equipment

Keep a reasonable stash of masks and other protective gear. Use N95 or N99 masks as regular surgical or reusable cloth mass may not filter all biological agents effectively. Wear gloves, eye protection and long sleeves when in contact with potentially contaminated surfaces. Use disposable, or easily washable clothing to minimize the spread of contaminants.

Follow decontamination protocols

Maintaining good personal hygiene and practicing proper sanitation helps reduce the risk of infections and diseases that could impact overall health. Regular hand washing, safe food handling, and keeping your living environment clean are essential practices.

Wash hands more frequently, especially after being in public places or touching potentially contaminated items. Regularly clean high-tough surfaces in your home with disinfectants such as bleach solutions or alcohol-based cleaners. (Related: Safe and clean: 8 Non-toxic alternatives to common household cleaning products that contain harmful ingredients.)

Boost your immunity

Healthy lifestyle changes that have a major impact on your overall health and wellness include a balanced diet, daily physical activity and exercising regularly, maintaining healthy body weight, getting adequate quality sleep, getting regular health checkups, and being aware of your family’s history.

Be mindful of reducing and managing stress. Engage in relaxation techniques, find activities you enjoy, or do something different that refreshes your routine and energizes your life, socialize and meet new people.

Establish a communication plan

Keep practicing and streamlining your family communication plan that outlines how each of you will remain in touch during emergencies. Ensure everyone knows how to reach each other and keep planning for contingencies. Maintain an updated list of local emergency services, family and trusted friends who can assist in any kind of crisis.

Be proficient in basic survival skills

Enroll in first aid training courses to learn how to treat common injuries and manage health emergencies effectively. Get certified in CPR and other essential skills to be prepared to assist others in critical situations. Volunteer in medical emergency missions for first-hand experience, mentoring and proficiency.

Plan for your pets

Include stockpiling emergency pet essentials. Include pet food, medication, water and a pet first aid kit in your survival stockpile. Create a plan for evacuating your pets, if necessary, including transport options and accommodations.

Practice situational awareness

Stay alert. Be aware of your surroundings and any unusual activities, especially in crowded places. Familiarize yourself and your family with escape routes in public spaces and your home.

Maintain a positive mindset

Mental resilience is key. Focus on a positive attitude to help cope with stress during emergencies and survival situations. Stay connected with family and friends to share experiences and support each other.

Develop a survivor instinct

Cultivate a mindset that prepares you and your family to adapt and respond to challenges. Visualization techniques can help you mentally rehearse potential scenarios Reflect on past emergencies (personal or community or your ancestors’) and identify what worked and what didn’t to improve future responses.

In the event of a serious biological threat, your goal is to obtain medical aid and minimize exposure. If symptomatic, immediately seek medical treatment at facilities designated by public health officials. Adhere to guidance and instructions from health authorities regarding potential exposure, including quarantine or surveillance.

If you suspect exposure to a contagious disease, such as smallpox), seek vaccination. For non-contagious diseases (such as anthrax) obtain appropriate antibiotics promptly. If there’s any doubt about contact with a biological agent, remove contaminated clothing, shower with soap and water and seek medical attention. If feasible, leave affected areas as soon as you are on a treatment regimen, if advised by officials

Being prepared for biological threats is essential for ensuring your safety and that of your loved ones. By having a plan, staying informed, stockpiling essential supplies, creating safe zones, practicing hygiene and sanitation, living healthy choices and honing your emergency response skills, you can enhance your resilience in the face of potential dangers. Timely and informed action can make a significant difference in critical situations.

Big Government and Big Tech Both Want Your Biometric Data https://americanconservativemovement.com/big-government-and-big-tech-both-want-your-biometric-data/ https://americanconservativemovement.com/big-government-and-big-tech-both-want-your-biometric-data/#respond Sun, 15 Sep 2024 06:53:13 +0000 https://americanconservativemovement.com/big-government-and-big-tech-both-want-your-biometric-data/ (Natural News)—Both Amazon and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) are demanding the biometric data of all Americans.

Amazon has introduced a groundbreaking biometric payment system, Amazon One, which allows users to pay for purchases, access loyalty rewards and enter certain restricted areas on Amazon properties all with the wave of a hand. Users who sign up agree to give Amazon data regarding their palm’s unique vein patterns to help verify their identities.

Launched last March 28, this technology is already being used at over 200 Whole Foods locations across 20 states, and Amazon plans to expand it to every Whole Foods in the United States by the end of the year. (Related: More businesses now resorting to BIOMETRICS so that government nannies can literally track everything you do, see and buy.)

The technology is also being adopted by other retailers, such as Panera Bread – appearing in diverse locations like airports, convenience stores, gyms and stadiums.

In a similar manner, TSA has introduced facial recognition technology at airports with a promise that the technology enhances safety and streamlines the travel experience.

Facial recognition is used by the TSA to verify a traveler’s identity by scanning their face. This system captures a live image of the traveler’s face and compares it to the photo on their ID or passport. If the two images match, the traveler is cleared to proceed – often without needing to show physical identification.

For travelers who choose not to use this technology, the TSA continues to offer traditional ID checks. Participation in the facial recognition program is entirely voluntary and those who opt out will not face any delays or negative consequences.

Facial recognition is not just limited to airport security. It is being adopted across various industries, including banking, retail and healthcare – promising benefits like faster service, improved accessibility and a more personalized user experience.

However, as the technology becomes more widespread, so do the risks. These risks include inaccuracies and biases against certain age groups and ethnicities, the vulnerability of stored facial data and the possibility of criminal entities impersonating other individuals.

Biometric technologies spark security concerns

Hafiz Malik, a cybersecurity professor at the University of Michigan, cautioned that these systems are not infallible. Malik pointed out that advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) could potentially enable the creation of fake versions of a person’s voice, handprint or even face.

These AI-generated forgeries could be used to trick biometric payment systems, highlighting the need for robust countermeasures like “liveness detection” – a technology used by Amazon to distinguish between real and fake palms.

Another significant concern is the storage and protection of biometric data. Unlike a stolen credit card, which can be replaced, biometric data can’t be changed if it is compromised. This permanence makes biometric data a highly attractive target for hackers.

Evan Greer, director of the digital rights advocacy group Fight for the Future, warned that trusting a corporation with biometric data also entails trusting that same corporation to keep that data safe. He said corporations have a really terrible track record of keeping people’s personal information safe.

Cynthia Rudin, a Duke University professor, further stressed the potential dangers if such sensitive data falls into the wrong hands.

“They can control you in ways you don’t like,” said Rudin. “Those data sets can be used to control us anywhere in the world, including arresting us, or preventing us from entering stores that don’t want customers in our salary bracket, or who have political views that disagree with the owners of the venues.”

Mystery Surrounding “Alien Mummies” in Peru Continues to Grow With More Specimens Being Discovered https://americanconservativemovement.com/mystery-surrounding-alien-mummies-in-peru-continues-to-grow-with-more-specimens-being-discovered/ https://americanconservativemovement.com/mystery-surrounding-alien-mummies-in-peru-continues-to-grow-with-more-specimens-being-discovered/#respond Tue, 27 Aug 2024 10:52:02 +0000 https://americanconservativemovement.com/mystery-surrounding-alien-mummies-in-peru-continues-to-grow-with-more-specimens-being-discovered/ (Natural News)—The mystery surrounding Peru’s so-called “alien mummies” continues to grow with new footage revealing three additional figures, including a severed “alien skull,” reportedly discovered by Peruvian tomb raiders. These tomb raiders are believed to have uncovered most of the dozen or so strange specimens now causing a stir.

The video shows two bodies, each about five feet tall and with features that are not human, including what appears to be a large, elongated skull. Both mummies are covered in a white substance, identified as fossilized algae, which is consistent with previously discovered specimens over the past year. These new finds are adding to the growing collection of unusual artifacts.

The unsteady footage apparently shot with a handheld phone, comes as lawmakers in the United States have finally committed to investigating these Peruvian oddities to uncover their origins. Forensic experts from the U.S., who examined a collection of these “alien mummies” back in April, are now urging the Peruvian government to allow the bodies to be transported to America for further study in U.S. laboratories.

Joshua McDowell, a criminal defense lawyer and former prosecutor who obtained the new video, has helped assemble a team of senior forensic specialists to uncover the truth behind what has become known as Peru’s “Nazca tridactyl mummies.”

One of the team members, Joshua’s father, Dr. John McDowell, discussed the numerous diplomatic, legal and scientific challenges that need to be addressed to properly analyze these mummies in the United States.

In an exclusive interview, Dr. McDowell outlined the key procedures that could ultimately determine whether these bodies are part of a sophisticated hoax. He also expressed amazement at the sheer number of these Nazca tridactyl specimens – named for their three-toed feet and three-fingered hands – seen in the new video. (Related: “Mermaid” mummy in Japan could be a terrifying monkey-fish hoax, researchers say.)

Referring to six of the 10 mummies he examined during his April visit to Peru, Dr. McDowell noted that he had seen bodies with extra fingers or toes, or missing digits due to genetic factors, but never a large group like this – all tridactyl organisms.

Dr. McDowell, a forensic odontologist who previously assisted law enforcement with dental identifications, said he had never encountered anything like the Nazca mummies. The group he saw in April number between six and 10 and the recent video shows two more beings with long, slender, claw-like toes.

Critics remain skeptical of mummies’ alleged extraterrestrial origins

Latin American historian at Penn State Christopher Heaney remains unconvinced that the remains are anything other than human. He cited two key historical factors that support his doubts about the so-called “alien” bodies.

First, Heaney pointed to the ancient Andean practice of “head binding,” which has been well documented by both Spanish colonists and local communities in Peru. This practice involved reshaping the skulls to create elongated heads, similar to the ones seen in the purported “alien” mummies. However, there is no evidence linking this custom to indigenous legends or myths about beings from the sky or stars.

Heaney believes there’s no “mystery” if one considers the accounts from 16th-century Spaniards and Andean people, who documented that head binding was common practice. Heaney explained that various groups in the Andes had engaged in this practice for over two millennia – binding children’s skulls with bandages or other materials to achieve a shape that was culturally valued.

According to Heaney, it is highly unlikely that the locals adopted this practice due to contact with extraterrestrial beings, as no such stories exist in the region’s folklore. One of the most comprehensive studies of this practice was conducted by Cornell University anthropologist Matthew Velasco and was published in 2018.

Second, Heaney highlighted the long history of black market trafficking, careless reburial of both real and fake Peruvian antiquities and tomb raiding. This chaotic history has created significant confusion around the authenticity of many historical artifacts in the region.

Heaney noted that this situation is part of a broader issue – emphasizing the need to investigate and understand the past more thoroughly.

The extensive history of tomb raiding in the region further amplifies Heaney’s doubts about the authenticity of the “alien mummies.” Heaney, who authored “Empires of the Dead,” a book on Peru’s Inca mummies, explained in a recent interview that tomb raiding and looting have been prevalent since the Spanish invasion of Peru in 1532. The Spanish quickly learned that Andean lords and Inca royalty were buried with significant wealth. As long as looters reported their finds to the colonial authorities and shared a portion of the treasures, including gold and silver, such activities were considered “legal.”

This centuries-long exploitation of Peru’s archaeological sites has led to a confusing mix of genuine ancient artifacts and hastily made items intended to attract buyers in the antiquities market.

Gen-Z Blames Social Media for Mental Health Struggles, Yet Few Are Ready to Disconnect https://americanconservativemovement.com/gen-z-blames-social-media-for-mental-health-struggles-yet-few-are-ready-to-disconnect/ https://americanconservativemovement.com/gen-z-blames-social-media-for-mental-health-struggles-yet-few-are-ready-to-disconnect/#respond Sat, 24 Aug 2024 06:42:52 +0000 https://americanconservativemovement.com/gen-z-blames-social-media-for-mental-health-struggles-yet-few-are-ready-to-disconnect/ (Natural News)—A recent survey reveals that three out of four Gen Z individuals with internet access in the United States believe social media negatively impacts their mental health.

The survey, which gathered responses from 2,000 Gen Z social media users, found that Instagram and TikTok (both at 20 percent) and Facebook (13 percent) were the platforms most often linked to declines in mental well-being.

For older members of Generation Z, born between 1998 and 2004, growing up with nearly a decade of social media exposure may have contributed to what one expert referred to as “problematic internet use.”

Commissioned by LG Electronics, this survey was carried out online by Talker Research between June 20 and June 24.

The study shows that people start to feel negative emotions just 38 minutes after using social media. This is often because they encounter upsetting content (51 percent), feel unproductive with their time (49 percent) or experience “fear of missing out,” or FOMO (36 percent). On average, individuals spend about five and a half hours each day on social media and 45 percent believe they use it more than their friends do.

Louis Giagrande, LG Electronics head of U.S. marketing, pointed out that spending a lot of time online can leave people feeling drained. He said people should be mindful of the content they engage with to improve their overall well-being and focus on positive content to help manage life’s challenges better and find more happiness.

Interestingly, 62 percent of Gen Zers wish they could reset their social media feeds. Many are frustrated with the content they see, with 53 percent saying it doesn’t match their interests and 54 percent feeling they have little control over what appears in their feeds. Only 16 percent believe they have full control.

Despite these issues, 80 percent of respondents also find that social media can positively impact their mood. Content that tends to lift people’s spirits includes comedy (65 percent), animals (48 percent), beauty-related posts (40 percent) and prank videos (34 percent). Conversely, content related to violence (50 percent), politics (40 percent) and sexual themes (32 percent) often leads to negative feelings.

The study found that two-thirds of people have managed to turn a bad day into a good one thanks to social media. They are also 70 percent more likely to use social media when they’re in a good mood and 44 percent believe it has a positive effect on their outlook on life. Looking ahead, 38 percent think social media platforms will improve their impact on mental health over the next five years.

Gen Zers use social media daily for various reasons, according to the study. Sixty-six percent do it out of boredom, 59 percent seek laughs or smiles, 55 percent need a distraction or break, 49 percent want to stay updated on global events, 44 percent check in on friends, 42 percent seek connections with others, 33 percent look for relaxation and 32 percent search for specific information.

How smartphone addiction affects mental health

Recent findings reveal a concerning link between excessive smartphone use and serious mental health issues. Teens who spend more than three hours daily on social media face an increased risk of developing mental health issues, especially those related to internal stress and anxiety.

Research from JAMA Psychiatry, which studied nearly 6,600 U.S. adolescents, suggests that boosting media literacy, limiting social media time and redesigning social media platforms could help alleviate these mental health issues.

A study published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal consolidates evidence from numerous research efforts – showing that heavy smartphone and social media use is associated with greater mental distress, self-harm and suicidal thoughts among young people. This effect is particularly pronounced in girls and follows a pattern where more screen time correlates with more severe problems.

Mark Milley: Robots Could Make up a Third of the U.S. Military by 2039 https://americanconservativemovement.com/mark-milley-robots-could-make-up-a-third-of-the-u-s-military-by-2039/ https://americanconservativemovement.com/mark-milley-robots-could-make-up-a-third-of-the-u-s-military-by-2039/#comments Wed, 31 Jul 2024 14:28:54 +0000 https://americanconservativemovement.com/?p=210050 (Natural News)—According to retired Army Gen. Mark Milley, robots and other advanced machinery could make up a third of the U.S. military by the year 2039.

The former chairman of the Department of Defense‘s Joint Chiefs of Staff made this prediction during the launch of Axios‘ Future of Defense News letter. During his speech at the July 11 event, he highlighted the potential for artificial intelligence (AI) and unmanned technology to lead to the creation of robotic military forces.

“Ten to 15 years from now, my guess is a third – maybe 25 percent to a third – of the U.S. military will be robotic,” Milley said, adding that these robots could be commanded and controlled by AI systems. According to the retired general, advancements in technology and changes in the nature of war will enable militaries worldwide to make smarter and faster decisions.

He distinguished between the fundamental aspects of war, which involve human actions and political motives and the character of war, which encompasses tactics, technologies, weapons systems and leadership training. While the nature of war remains consistent, Milley pointed out that the character of war is undergoing a significant transformation due to the rise of AI and robotics. He compared this shift to the historical transition from muskets to rifles during the Civil War, a change that had a lasting impact on military tactics.

The retired general asserted that the nation that most quickly integrates these technologies into its military will gain a substantial advantage over its rivals. To retain its position as the world’s most formidable military force, he stressed that the U.S. must rapidly adapt and potentially revolutionize its operations.

According to Milley, current U.S. policy mandates human oversight in the use of military robots, particularly regarding lethal force due to humans’ capacity of ethical decision-making – a trait that technology lacks. He nevertheless did not dismiss the possibility of a future where AI-enabled machines could make autonomous decision, posing the question of whether this is a desirable direction for the world.

Other militaries also seeing the potential of robo-soldiers

During the event, Milley noted that the number of human troops in militaries “will probably be reduced as [nations] move toward robotic systems.” He continued: “It’ll be a fundamental change, and I would argue that other nations’ militaries are going to be similarly designed.” (Related: So they’re experimenting with military robots in Gaza now.)

“The country that optimizes those technologies for military use is going to have a very significant – and potentially decisive – advantage in an armed conflict.”

Axios reported that militaries have, for years, tinkered with robot units to bolster their fighting capacity. Such technologies include armed drones, robo-dogs, mechanical mules and more. Even the U.S. military’s various branches are looking into the prospect of using these robotic technologies, with Axios sharing several examples.

“The Army is experimenting with what’s known as human-machine integrated formations, where soldiers fight alongside automatons. The Air Force is seeking so-called ‘collaborative combat’ aircraft that can fly alongside human pilots to collect intelligence, confuse enemy electronics and even blow up targets.”

“The Navy is in pursuit of a hybrid fleet, with unmanned surface and underwater vehicles augmenting the firepower of sailors and Marines. One pioneer is Task Force 59 in the Middle East.”

But Thailand-based journalist Ben Bartee sarcastically noted the “advantages” of robot soldiers over human troops.

“Of course, robot soldiers don’t ask questions. They don’t have moral qualms. They don’t require lifelong healthcare from the [Department of Veterans Affairs] for [post-traumatic stress disorder], hazard pay or compensation when their robot limbs get blown off.”

“They don’t have the capacity to say no to unconstitutional orders. Indeed, they have no inherent allegiance to the Constitution whatsoever, only to the interest they would be programmed to serve by whoever programmed them.”

Here are five recipes for easy-to-make survival foods you should know by heart.

Hardtack

Also called hard bread, this tough biscuit is a survival food with a history going back as far as Ancient Rome.

Ingredients:

  • 5 cups wheat flour
  • 2 quarts water
  • 3 teaspoons of salt

Combine all of these ingredients in a large mixing bowl. When the flour, salt and water have formed a dry bread dough, roll it out flat with a rolling pin or pat it out by hand. If the dough still has sticky spots, add more flour.

Make a 12-inch-thick dough sheet, cut it into three-inch squares and poke holes in both sides of each dough square. Bake these squares for 30 minutes per side at 375 F on an ungreased cookie sheet.

Keep your hardtack in a cool, dry and dark place away from pests. Once hardtack has fully dried, it can last for years if stored properly.

Pemmican

Pemmican is a very ancient forerunner to modern survival rations, known as a very weird meatball made of dried meat and rendered fat. It is filled to the brim with calories and its invention its popularity is traditionally credited to Native Americans.

Ingredients:

  • 8 ounces of lard
  • 8 ounces of packed powdered jerky chopped in a blender
  • 8 ounces of dried fruit, ideally berries

Warm the lard in a pot to a temperature below 100 F until it turns into a soft, pasty texture. Keep stirring while it heats up. Stir your other ingredients into the softened fat until they have thoroughly combined with the lard, which usually takes about two minutes of continuous stirring.

If you have the ingredients, feel free to add small amounts of flour or other starch sources for additional carbohydrates. You can even add different spices to add some flavor.

Turn off the heat and, once the mixture is cool enough to touch, scoop it out by hand and compress it into round balls or flat cakes. Be sure to let the pemmican completely cook before you store it.

Traditionally, pemmican would usually be stored in rawhide containers. Instead of this, you can wrap up the pemmican in wax paper and keep it stored in a cool place. If kept relatively cool, pemmican can last for months. However, as the weather warms, it would be wise to eat the pemmican before the fat begins to smell rancid.

Bannock

Sometimes called skillet bread, bannock is a round, flat, unleavened bread that is associated with Scotland and northern England. Although you can adapt a bannock recipe for the oven, it is meant to be cooked in a skillet over a campfire or in a fireplace.

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 ¾ cups dried fruit (e.g., cherries)
  • 1 teaspoon chopped rosemary
  • 1 ½ cups buttermilk or sour milk

Preheat your oven to 300 F.

In a medium-sized bowl, combine all of your dry ingredients except for the dried fruit and rosemary. Thoroughly mix them. Chop your dried fruit and rosemary into very fine pieces and set aside.

Now that you have a bowl full of dry ingredients, make a well in the center for your buttermilk. Add the buttermilk to the well and begin to slowly incorporate flour from the sides – this will allow you to control the dough consistency. Do not collapse the sides of the well. You will have leftover flour to coat your table and to use while you knead the dough.

Once the batter becomes stodgy and pasty, you can add your finely chopped dried fruit and rosemary. At this point, you are going to dump the dough out onto a floured surface. Work the dough and add flour until it becomes less sticky and the dried fruit and rosemary are fully incorporated.

At this point, you are ready to begin baking the bannock. Bake the bannock for 20 minutes until it has started to brown a bit. Remove the bannock and allow it to rest and cool. After the bannock has completely cooled, it can be sliced and served or sliced and stored.

The best storage method is to keep it whole until you need it. If you leave it uncovered, it will get very hard in a couple of days. Freezing would be the best way to keep it for a really long time. But if you don’t have that option, keep it hard and dry. (Related: 8 survival bread recipes for preppers.)

Biltong

Biltong is a traditional South African food that consists of dried and marinated meat. Whereas jerky is often smoked, biltong is cured with vinegar, salt and spices and then air-dried. Also, you can make biltong from a large variety of meat cuts.

Ingredients:

  • 2 kilograms (4.4 pounds) of lean meat
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 3 cups plump sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons ground black peppercorns
  • 100 ml Worcestershire sauce
  • 5 cups vinegar
  • 4 tablespoons of ground coriander seeds

To prepare the meat, always cut to the length of the grain, never against it. Prepare 1 cm thick slices of meat and then put those slices into the vinegar-Worcestershire sauce mix for half an hour. Store the remaining vinegar in the fridge because it will be used later in the recipe.

Crush all the spices and then mix in the salt, baking soda and sugar. Make sure that all the meat is perfectly coated with this and then layer those slices on a clean plate. Place the thickest slice at the base and the other chucks above it. Sprinkle your remaining spice mixture on top of the upper layer. Refrigerate for at least eight hours.

Take out the refrigerated chunks of meat and then soak them again in the vinegar mix for at least 15 minutes. Remove the meat slices and then rinse out the salt residue from every piece. Squeeze the moisture out of the meat pieces.

You can then dry the biltong in two different ways in the oven or in the traditional way by hanging the strips up on racks in a room with good circulation. Alternatively, the strips can be refrigerated and, if frozen, they can last for up to a year.

Trail biscuit

This is a stick-to-your-ribs food that will help stretch rations or fill bellies. The egg and lard are optional, but if you’re not using lard, substitute the baking powder for a couple of teaspoons of baking soda.

Ingredients:

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 1 egg (optional, if available)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup lard (or butter)
  • 1 ½ cups milk

Preheat oven to 370 F or stoke your coals so they’re hot enough to cook on.

Combine flour, salt and baking powder (or baking soda) in a bowl, then cut the cold lard (or butter) into the flour mixture until you have pea-sized pieces. Add milk until the dough is barely sticky. Don’t overmix or your biscuits will be tough.

Drop about ¼ cup of the batter into a greased pan or Dutch oven. Cook for 20 minutes or so until the biscuits are brown. If using a Dutch oven, put the biscuits in.

There are many, many more survival foods you can make to keep you well-fed with necessary nutrients during survival situations, such as parched corn, trench cake, jerky, dried fruit, beans and rice and peasant’s bread. What’s important is you are aware of the kinds of foods you can make that can keep you sustained during emergencies.

Survival Beverages That Are a Must for Your Pantry https://americanconservativemovement.com/survival-beverages-that-are-a-must-for-your-pantry/ https://americanconservativemovement.com/survival-beverages-that-are-a-must-for-your-pantry/#respond Tue, 20 Feb 2024 07:40:29 +0000 https://americanconservativemovement.com/?p=201177 (Natural News)—Part of your pantry should be dedicated to “survival” beverages. Here are recommendations of what you can stockpile for long-term survival.

Water

To stay hydrated and maintain oral and personal hygiene during emergencies, water is the first survival beverage that comes to mind. Determine basic water needs by listing each household member’s daily water requirement (including pets) – to stay hydrated and do oral and personal hygiene.

Add supplemental water requirements to cook food, wash clothes and other personal items, clean the home, water the garden plants and so on.

Learn about the best emergency water storage containers for your home, even if you are space-constrained, and how best to store this essential resource. (Related: Prepper storage guides: Which containers you should use to store water for stockpiling.)

Other emergency water options for your everyday carry (EDC), go-bags and vehicle are the following:

  • Boxed water, which you can buy packaged in 12-pack, 24-pack and 32-pack sizes, comes in recyclable packaging.
  • Canned water, although pricey, has a 50-year shelf life. Packed in cans made of corrosion-resistant aluminum and designed to withstand conditions between 38 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit, canned water is ideal for keeping in your vehicle and repurposing.
  • Bagged water, which is also expensive, comes in convenient package sizes, doesn’t degrade or leak, is easy to store, has a long shelf life and withstands extreme temperatures.

Coffee

This beverage is a much-loved drink – with so many types and methods for brewing it that even the most seasoned coffee experts would have trouble listing them all. Studies have shown that this ancient beverage is more “friend” than “foe.” (Related: Enjoy that cup of Joe: Here are science-backed health benefits of CAFFEINE.”)

When used responsibly, four representative groups of its micronutrients – caffeine, chlorogenic acid, diterpenes and trigonelline – provide many benefits to your brain, body and general well-being. These chemical compounds have been found to possess biological activities, including anti-microbial, anti-proliferative and antioxidant effects.

Scientifically proven benefits aside, coffee can be considered an “essential survival beverage” and serve as a “vital ally in survival situations.”

To retain the best quality in both whole bean and ground coffee, you may need to repackage your beans. Only use (and invest in) canisters with an airtight seal, specifically designed for coffee storage. Store your coffee stock in a cool, dark place away from heat, light and moisture.

Tea

Tea is part of many traditions from all over the world with its endless variations and flavors. Having been practiced for over 2,000 years, drinking tea has been regarded as a “health-promoting habit.”

There are two major types of teas you can stock in your pantry. “True tea” is made from the leaves of the plant Camellia sinensis  – black tea, green tea, oolong tea, pu-erh tea, white tea and yellow tea.  (Related: 6 Primary types of tea and their science-backed health benefits.)

And there are herbal teas,  also known as “tisanes,” which are made using a combination of bark, flowers, leaves and spices of non-tea plants. (Related: Why people love tea: A look at some herbal tea recipes for mild depression.)

A review published in the Journal of Food Chemistry linked the promising health benefits of tea to its different phenolic components – mainly catechins, flavonoids and tannins.  (Related: 8 Tips to help you manage anxiety naturally plus herbal tea recipes for anxiety relief.)

Tea polyphenol catechins, especially in green tea, are believed to exert protective effects against conditions and diseases, such as arteriosclerosis, cancer, diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases, obesity and even tooth decay. These tea components have also exhibited antibacterial, anti-viral and hepatoprotective properties.

Phenolic flavonoids are in particularly high concentrations in tea and its habitual intake has been associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease.

Organic coconut water

Dubbed by the Hawaiians as the “dew from the heavens,” fresh coconut water is a naturally sweet and hydrating drink from young, green or “tender coconuts” – fat-free, low-calorie (compared to mature coconuts), rich in nutrients like amino acids, glucose, essential electrolytes (calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium) and vitamins.

Also referred to as nature’s “water of life,” its nutrient benefits rapidly deteriorate once exposed to air and warm temperatures. The good news is that fresh coconut water can be freeze-dried into coconut water powder to lock in its powerful nutrients, which support healthy immune function, metabolism and proper hydration.

Coconut water powder has a longer shelf life and can be kept for three years from manufacture when properly stored in an odor-free area at 60-80 Fahrenheit and less than 70 percent humidity. Your product will absorb moisture if left open and exposed to air so keep it in air-tight containers. If you want to keep it in the freezer, pack it in quality freezer bags.

Non-dairy milk, such as organic coconut milk

As the coconut matures, which takes around 10-12 months, some of the coconut water remains while the rest ripens into the solid white flesh known as coconut meat, which is gathered, grated and pressed to create or extract coconut milk.

Coconut milk has an impressive nutritional profile. Studies indicate coconut milk is a rich source of electrolytes (calcium, copper, magnesium, manganese and potassium), iron, protein and healthy fats – particularly medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), which have been shown to enhance exercise endurance, maintain healthy fluid balance and support overall health. There is a lot of research into the powerful science-backed health benefits of coconut milk.

For long-term storage with no major loss of nutrients, raw coconut milk can be spray-dried or dehydrated using heat to powder form. Consider buying certified USDA organic coconut milk powder, non-GMO, gluten-free, dairy-free, glyphosate-tested, laboratory-verified and only lightly sweetened with organic rice maltodextrin, it contains no additives or preservatives.

For longer shelf life and to keep your product as a ready-to-use fine powder, store it in a cool, dry area with temperatures of 78-86 Fahrenheit.

Organic coconut milk powder is a great choice for anyone seeking a reliable source of plant-based nutrients. Perfect as a gluten-free and dairy-free vegan creamer for your morning coffee, organic coconut milk powder dissolves quickly when stirred in hot water. It may soon become your favorite ingredient for your curries, smoothies, soups and more.

Alcohol

Alcohol can be used as a valuable bartering item. It can help alleviate stress in the middle of disaster (when consumed moderately), and it has many survival uses. It can be used to boost morale, clean a gun, cook an egg, disinfect, eliminate fungus, fuel a lamp and stove, kill mold and weeds, reduce anxiety, repel bugs, soothe mouth pain, start a fire, suppress cough, treat a cold and more.

During your prepping journey, it’s really up to you and your family to determine whether these should be incorporated into your stockpile (and the appropriate quantities to store), as well as any other beverages to consider stockpiling.

The Three States Most Likely to Suffer From Power Grid Collapse https://americanconservativemovement.com/the-three-states-most-likely-to-suffer-from-power-grid-collapse/ https://americanconservativemovement.com/the-three-states-most-likely-to-suffer-from-power-grid-collapse/#comments Fri, 02 Feb 2024 15:17:35 +0000 https://americanconservativemovement.com/?p=200903 (Natural News)—Late last year, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NAERC), a not-for-profit international regulatory authority, had warned that much of the United States power grid – “the only major power grid without a plan” – and parts of Canada are vulnerable to major winter storms.

This was confirmed by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), which stated that 70 percent of power outages in the U.S. are weather-related, caused by natural weather phenomena such as ice, lighting, rain, snow, wind and even dust.

For instance, millions of households went without power when winter storm “Elliot” hit the Eastern United States in December 2022. (Related: Energy Commissioner warns: America heading toward power grid “reliability crisis.”)

Knowing the places most likely to suffer from a power grid collapse is crucial for any serious prepper.

States with the least reliable power grids

From the latest electrical reliability data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) on Sep. 20, 2023, here are the top three states with the worst power grids, according to Generator Decision.

Louisiana

The Jazz capital of the world has an aging electrical grid, which does not keep up with extreme weather. When Hurricane Ida, a deadly and extremely destructive Category 4 Atlantic hurricane made its landfall in Louisiana in 2021, nearly a million people lost power and many of the State’s residents lived without electricity for more than a month, PBS reported.

On Sep.23, 2021, the Louisiana Public Service Commission said: “Sometimes, there just isn’t enough electricity to meet unusually high demands. Power is never guaranteed in Louisiana, especially at the end of August/beginning of September.”

While Louisiana is known for its colorful history and having a “flair all its own” with its amazing architecture, Mardi Gras, great cuisine, fantastic music and more, you would not want to be in any one of its cities that have been identified as the most dangerous cities – especially during blackouts.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) included Alexandria, Bastrop, Crowley, Hammond, Leesville, Marksville, Monroe, Opelousas, Walker and West Monroe as the FBI’s 10 most dangerous cities in Louisiana for 2023.

Oregon

Oregon’s system shares power with much of that West Coast grid called the Western Interconnection.

Most grid infrastructure in the Beaver State is built above ground due to cheaper construction costs. However, above-ground power lines are more vulnerable to weather events.

In a post released on Dec. 14, 2023, the Oregon Citizens’ Utility Board (CUB) described its grid as “increasingly at risk” with extreme weather events – wildfires and ice storms – “becoming more frequent and longer.”

On Jan 19, Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB) reported that the FBI was warning utilities of neo-Nazi or “white supremacists’ plots to take down the nation’s power grid as a string of deliberate physical attacks on electrical substations unfolded in Oregon and Washington states in 2022.”

According to an FBI memo obtained by OPB and KUOW: “The individuals of concern believe that an attack on electrical infrastructure will contribute to their ideological goal of causing societal collapse and a subsequent race war in the United States.”

Since mid-November 2022, Portland General Electric, Bonneville Power Administration, Cowlitz County Public Utility District and Puget Sound Energy have confirmed a total of six separate attacks on electrical substations they manage in Oregon and Washington that have left thousands of residents without electricity for days.

An email from a security specialist with the Bonneville Power Administration in Portland, obtained by OPB and KUOW, reportedly provided details of the attacks, “including setting the control houses on fire, forced entry and sabotage of intricate electrical control systems, causing short circuits by tossing chains across the overhead busywork and ballistic attack with small caliber firearms.”

Due to concerns about the specialist’s safety, Bonneville Power officials requested that the specialist’s name be withheld.

Texas

Unlike most other states in the U.S., Texas predominantly operates on its own independent power grid – the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT). However, this isolation also means “it cannot readily tap into neighboring grids when faced with a deficit,” according to Paschal, a company that provides professional heating, air conditioning, plumbing and electrical services.

From freezing winter storms that paralyze power plants to scorching summer days that can overload the Texas grid, extreme weather puts more strain on the system, especially as metropolitan areas, like Austin, Dallas and Houston, with the sheer number of businesses and consumers connecting to the grid overloading Texas’ aging infrastructure.

Paschal added that its legacy systems are reportedly facing wear, tear and obsolescence.

Investopedia said that natural gas and wind generate most of Texas’ electricity and “its infrastructure isn’t winterized against freezing temperatures.” It noted that winter storm “Uri” from Feb.13-17, 2021 led to more than 210 deaths and caused almost 70 percent of Texas to be without power and 50 percent to lose water.

“Vaccine” Side Effect? Swiss Health Insurer’s Data Shows 73% Increase in People Receiving Cancer Treatment Since 2020 https://americanconservativemovement.com/vaccine-side-effect-swiss-health-insurers-data-shows-73-increase-in-people-receiving-cancer-treatment-since-2020/ https://americanconservativemovement.com/vaccine-side-effect-swiss-health-insurers-data-shows-73-increase-in-people-receiving-cancer-treatment-since-2020/#comments Thu, 28 Dec 2023 17:13:46 +0000 https://americanconservativemovement.com/?p=199815 (Natural News)—Data from major Swiss health insurance company Helsana showed that in 2021, there was a dramatic increase of 73 percent in the number of patients receiving cancer treatments compared to 2020. This trend persisted in 2022.

Not surprisingly, it coincided with the rollout of Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines in Switzerland, which began on December 2020.

“We have a doubling of cancer cases,” concluded University of Lucerne health economist Konstantin Beck, after analyzing data from the Federal Statistical Office (BfS) and the Helsana Drug Report of 2022.

How healthy was Switzerland in 2020?

Beck addressed the question “How healthy was Switzerland in 2020?” in a video presentation – with the background of his analysis coming from the 2022 Helsana report and the figures from the “official” health survey the BfS published on Nov. 3.

The video begins by pointing out that the BfS conducts its health survey every five years. The health economist commented: “What is surprising is that the BfS published statistics in its database with detailed information about the health survey of Swiss citizens were deleted a few days after [they were released].”

Before the data was unpublished, BfS gave the following statement regarding its 2022 health survey: “In 2022, 85 percent of the Swiss population aged 15 and over felt healthy and 83 percent felt happy. At the same time, more than a third live with a permanent health problem. Psychological stress has increased compared to 2017. The 15 to 24 year old age group is particularly affected, especially young women.”

However, this assessment by the BfS did not match the data it published. (Related: Insurance data confirms sharp increase in “sudden deaths” following COVID jab rollout.)

The deleted health survey results were responses to the question “Have you ever had one of the following illnesses or health problems in your life?” with heart attack, stroke and cancer included in the listed disease. A tally of the responses showed that:

  • 170,000 people said they had a heart attack – from 33,339 in 2017 (an increase of more than 19 percent)
  • 124,515 people said they had a stroke – from 27,584 in 2017 (an increase of more than 22 percent)
  • 344,166 people said they had cancer – from 116,603 in 2017 (an increase of almost 34 percent)

Beck calculated that based on the expunged BfS statistics, the cases in 2022 would have “increased by a factor of four to five” even if aging and immigration were taken into account and subtracted from the data.

The BfS also made a noticeable change to the question on its health survey, which raises even more suspicion. In 2017, participants were asked if they’d had a heart attack, stroke or cancer the previous year, but the 2022 survey asked participants if they’d had any of the illnesses in their lifetime.

Given the question, Beck noted that the numbers from 2022 would understandably be higher. But he questioned why the BfS saw it fit to compare recent data with data from five years earlier in the first place, only to delete the incorrect comparison after releasing a contradictory statement.

To get to the bottom of things, Beck used the Helsana Drug Report to make a proper comparison. Published annually in Switzerland, the Helsana Drug Report “analyses the Swiss pharmaceutical market and provides insights into the cost and consumption of drugs.” Its data for the year 2022 was published on November 30, 2023.

Using the Helsana data, Beck came up with a table showing that in 2020, the number of cancer patients receiving treatment was nine percent higher than the trend established using data from 2013 to 2019. But this difference skyrocketed to 95 percent in 2021 and to 106 percent in 2022, prompting Beck to wonder whether COVID vaccinations had something to do with it.

Since the increase in cancer cases in 2020 was very small, Beck reasoned that the pandemic couldn’t have caused the massive jump in number in the succeeding years. Only Switzerland’s COVID vaccination campaign coincided with the sudden rise in cancer cases among the Swiss population.

Was the BfS trying to cover up COVID-19 vaccine injuries?

Following the unpublishing of its 2022 health statistics, the BfS justified its action by simply stating that “the surveys from 2017 and 2022 are not comparable.”

According to Beck, this simple admission without further explanation “does not help strengthen trust in the BfS” because the numbers “could reflect the negative effects of the coronavirus vaccinations. And it doesn’t make a good impression if the office first publishes such data and then deletes it.”

“If you have such a serious mistake, then it would be desirable for the mistake to be better communicated,” said Beck.

Beck’s video, where he explains his analysis, was published in German and had no English subtitles. However, Transition News has published an article on Beck’s video, which is also in German but can be translated into English using an online translation tool.
