We’re at least two/three generations further, and with every generation we loose knowledge that was there before. We only do the thing, but we have no understanding being it only to do ‘what these before you did’. It becomes an act, rather than a profession.
I also think this is becoming evident in all occupations in society. For example, in my city they’re demolishing a previous water levy in order to rebuild a nicer one. Good thing, sure, but I’m wondering if there’s still knowledge behind it, or that it’s only a handy constructor fixing eye candy.
Maybe I’m wrong, but it can grow that way.
