Correction: The paper currency we use today are NOT IOUs. They are based on nothing except everyone’s agreement on its value or purchasing power. Gold and Silver Certificates were IOUs issued by the Federal Reserve and were promissory notes redeemable (in theory) with gold or silver. In practice, good luck collecting!

Do let your patrons know that Gold & Silver are true MONEY. That paper you carry around in your wallet is called currency and are actually I.O.U. Federal Reserve Notes, NOT MONEY.
