“Up until 6 a.m. (UTC+8) today, 30 PLA aircraft and 9 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were identified. 20 of the aircraft entered Taiwan’s northern, middle line, and southwest ADIZ,” the Taiwanese MND announced on social media. The Republic of China Armed Forces (ROCAF) have been monitoring the situation and responding appropriately.
It’s worth noting that the official name of Taiwan is the Republic of China, in contrast to its mainland counterpart, the People’s Republic of China.
This show of force by the Chinese military comes after a phone conversation between the leaders of the People’s Republic of China and the United States. President Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping had their first phone call since July 2022 on Tuesday, with the two leaders expected to discuss topics such as Taiwan, narcotics, artificial intelligence, and China’s support for Russia in the Ukraine conflict.
While the White House has yet to provide specific details about the call, it described the conversation as a “check-in” between the two leaders. The last time Biden and Xi spoke publicly was in November, following Biden’s use of the term “dictator” to describe Xi in June last year, after the U.S. shot down a Chinese spy craft on the East Coast. Biden reiterated this description of Xi in November last year as tensions over Taiwan escalated.
President Biden has previously stated that the U.S. would intervene if China were to invade Taiwan, but the White House has subsequently walked back these statements.

]]>North Korea test-fired an advanced intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) for just the second time in response to “unprecedented military provocations” by the U.S. and allies against Pyongyang on July 12, CNN reported. Kurt Campbell, the White House official in charge of Indo-Pacific policy, confirmed the port call of the Ohio-class submarine in Busan, South Korea, on Tuesday, amid a larger effort to build trust with South Korea and deepen cooperation on nuclear deterrence, according to The New York Times.
“As we speak, an American nuclear submarine is making port in Busan today,” Campbell said during the inaugural meeting of the Nuclear Consultative Group (NGC) in Seoul, according to CNN. President Joe Biden commissioned the NCG in April to support greater U.S.-South Korea integration of strategic planning and ways to counter North Korea’s nuclear threat.
Ohio-class submarines can carry up to 80 nuclear warheads on Trident missiles, which they can launch at targets up to 4,600 miles away, according to CNN. Their range allows the U.S. to mount a credible deterrent against North Korean nuclear activity even when transiting waters far from North Korea, experts explained.
The port visit reflects Washington’s “ironclad commitment to the Republic of Korea for our extended deterrence guarantee and complements the many exercises, training, operations, and the other military cooperation activities conducted by Strategic Forces to ensure they are available and ready to operate around the globe at any time,” United States Forces Korea said in a statement.
South Korea’s defense ministry also confirmed the submarine’s arrival.
Kim Yo Jong, a senior leader in her brother’s dictatorial regime, said in a statement the Ohio-class submarine’s presence in Busan would further impede communication efforts between the contesting sides, according to CNN. The NCG was “openly discussing the use of nukes against the DPRK [Democratic People’s Republic of Korea] and the entry of U.S. strategic nuclear submarine into waters of the Korean Peninsula for the first time in 40-odd years,” she said.
“The US should know that its bolstered extended deterrence system and excessively extended military alliance system, a threatening entity, will only make the DPRK go farther away from the negotiating table desired by it,” the statement continued.
The communist country escalated invasion rhetoric against South Korea in recent weeks and months and recently extended threats to shoot down U.S. planes.
In a joint statement, the U.S. and South Korea said the NCG would enhance the allies’ “combined deterrence and response posture,” according to CNN.

]]>Russia initially disclosed the existence of the said biolabs in Ukraine. However, recent reports state the disappointment of many nations in the Asia-Pacific region and Africa over these experiments.
Back in December, lawmakers part of the Makabayan (Nationalist) bloc of the Philippine House of Representatives called for an investigation on the U.S. DoD’s biological weapons activity. The American agency had been doing experiments at the Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory in the province of Tarlac. In a resolution, the bloc pointed out that the DoD’s Defense Threat Reduction Agency is in charge of countering chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and high-explosive weapons of mass destruction.
“A civilian laboratory was constructed using funds of a foreign military agency, which has the responsibility of managing and integrating the U.S. Defense Department’s chemical and biological defense science and technology program,” the measure stated.
“Allowing the U.S. DoD to influence civilian agricultural initiatives gives rise to reasonable suspicions on the true objectives of these projects in the Philippines,” it continued. According to the lawmakers, the U.S. Department of Agriculture ought to be in charge of civilian cooperation on bilateral agricultural concerns, not agencies under the DoD – a concern shared by many Filipinos.
Indonesia also voiced out its opposition toward the presence of the Naval Medical Research Unit Two (NAMRU2) in the country. Officials dubbed the unit, which is led by the U.S. Navy, as “inexpedient” and “useless.” Thus, Jakarta ordered the immediate cessation of operations at NAMRU2, forcing the transfer of the unit’s unfinished Indonesian operations to Cambodia.
The DoD-operated biolabs are also present in Africa, which has prompted the health ministry of an unnamed Central African state to remark that this facility is likely responsible for the outbreak of an Ebola-based virus in September of last year. The pathogen reportedly created in Sudan was fully identical to a virus circulating throughout Africa back in 2012.
Aside from Africa, the Eastern European country of Georgia also hosts one such facility. The so-called Lugar Center in the capital Tbilisi is funded by Washington. Its operations are overseen by the U.S. Army Medical Research Unit in Georgia and some private companies linked to the DoD and DTRA under a state contract.
Only American citizens who have access to classified information and possess diplomatic immunity under the U.S.-Georgia Agreement on Defense Cooperation are allowed to access the Lugar Center, a Level III laboratory. Aside from collecting unspecified biological agents, the facility works works with a number of biological agents – including anthrax, tularemia and a number of highly contagious hemorrhagic fevers.
Lt. Gen Igor Kirillov of the Russian Armed Forces (AFR) disclosed last April that Washington is developing biological weapons in close proximity to Russia’s borders. He cited more than 2,000 documents of various plans and projects examined by Moscow to back up his claim. (Related: Russia says U.S. government working on “universal” GMO bioweapon at Ukrainian biolabs that would cause MASS DEATH of humans, animals and crops.)
“We have no doubt that the U.S. – under the guise of ensuring global biosafety – conducted dual-use research, including the creation of biological weapons components in the immediate vicinity of the Russian borders,” said Kirillov, the head of the AFR’s radiation, chemical and biological defense unit.
According to the Russian general, the work on bioweapons was carried out in laboratories in the Donetsk and Luhansk republics and in the Kherson region. Formerly under Ukraine, the three areas are now under Russian control.
