Simply speaking, precious metals represent arguably the most private form of holding wealth that’s commonly used by millions. A lot of money can be held compactly through gold and silver, as Adams noted. Moreover, it requires neither a paper trail nor an electronic record, so unlike real estate, stocks, cryptocurrency, or money in the bank, precious metals exist in a relative “black hole” that government cannot see.

By no means are we encouraging the use of precious metals for illegal purposes, as Senator Menendez is accused of doing. But one does not have to be a criminal to see the value of anonymity and privacy in wealth protection through physical precious metals.

Menendez and his wife were indicted on Friday on charges including three counts of alleged bribery, fraud and extortion in the Southern District of New York. After Menendez declined the numerous calls from fellow Democrats to resign, Kim said he felt “compelled” to primary the senator, according to his Twitter.

“After calls to resign, Senator Menendez said ‘I am not going anywhere.’ As a result, I feel compelled to run against him. Not something I expected to do, but NJ deserves better. We cannot jeopardize the Senate or compromise our integrity. Please join me,” Kim wrote, including a link for donations.

Along with Kim, numerous elected Democratic officials from New Jersey have called on Menendez to resign, including Gov. Phil Murphy, state Democratic Party Chairman LeRoy Jones, General Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin, Rep. Mikie Sherrill, Rep. Josh Gottheimer and former Rep. Tom Malinowski. Democratic Rep. Dean Philips of Minnesota and Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania have also asked Menendez to step aside.

“Those who believe in justice believe in innocence until proven guilty,” Menendez said in a statement. “I intend to continue to fight for the people of New Jersey with the same success I’ve had for the past five decades. This is the same record of success these very same leaders have lauded all along. It is not lost on me how quickly some are rushing to judge a Latino and push him out of his seat. I am not going anywhere.”

The charges brought against Menendez related to allegedly receiving lavish gifts, like cash, gold bars and a luxury car, in return for political favors in the upper chamber. Menendez has denied the allegations.

Menendez previously served in both chambers of the state Legislature, as well as the U.S. House, according to Ballotpedia. The senator has held his seat since 2006, and is running for a fourth term next year.

Menendez did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

Here’s what I mean by that. The Obama and Biden DOJs were – and are – weaponized against political opponents, and even conservative Americans. The IRS targeting the Tea Party. The DOJ labeling concerned parents at school board meetings as “domestic terrorists.” The DOJ targeting traditional Catholics – something the ACLJ is investigating right now. The list goes on.

But their abuse of the justice system is not contained within partisan lines. The DOJ’s legal arsenal is now being used to indict New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez and his wife on bribery charges. The couple is accused of taking hundreds of thousands in cash, luxury vehicles and even gold bars in exchange for political influence with several New Jersey businessman and the foreign government of Egypt.

And yes, it’s easy to draw comparisons between the Menendez indictment… and the accusations about Joe Biden and his son Hunter. We know the corruption runs deep and two separate standards are applied. But with Menendez, the DOJ wasn’t suddenly struck by an ethically-driven lightning bolt giving them all a sense of duty, honor and justice. So, the question remains, why is the left looking to cannibalize one of its own? And why now?
One possible political motive stands out – if we look at Menendez’s history with the DOJ.

Jack Smith, yes- THAT Jack Smith, indicted Menendez in 2017 on similar corruption and bribery charges and went to trial. After the jury was deadlocked, the DOJ yanked the case in January of 2018 and Menendez went on to handily win re-election in New Jersey.

But let’s go back even further to 2015. Remember Obama’s infamous Iran Nuclear Deal? Menendez was one of four Democrat Senators to vote against it.

Now fast-forward to today, and we find a desperate Biden Administration that just needs a win. And a new deal with Iran is expected to be coming down the pike soon. Except the Democrats’ slim majority in the Senate cannot afford four detractors this time around.

If following this DOJ has taught us anything, it’s this: whenever it APPEARS to be doing its job – like prosecuting real possible corruption – it probably isn’t actually doing its job. There’s likely another politically slanted motivation behind their actions.

The Justice Department unsealed an indictment against Menendez and his wife, Nadine, on three counts Friday, according to a release by the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. Menendez and his wife allegedly received cash and gold bars from three New Jersey businessmen in return for aiding the Egyptian government, according to the indictment.

“You should be appalled. A member of Congress who appears to have broken the law, is someone who I believe should resign,” Phillips told CNN “Inside Politics” guest host Manu Raju. “George Santos should have resign resigned already. Sadly, our House ethics process and the Senate as well is not as proficient as it needs to be, so we have to rely on the judicial system.”

Republican Rep. George Santos of New York was indicted in May on 13 federal charges. He entered a plea of not guilty May 10. The House Ethics Committee is investigating whether he should be expelled from Congress.

“I’m really disappointed. And in comparison to the president of the United States, of which there’s no evidence and yet is subject to an impeachment inquiry, there’s evidence here,” Phillips added. “And yes, I am a Democrat, so is Senator Menendez, but based on what I have seen, I’m disappointed. Yes, I think he should resign.”

Menendez faced trial in 2017 over corruption allegations that ended with a hung jury.

The U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York announced that the charges against the New Jersey Democrat will be unsealed at 11 a.m. Friday. President Joe Biden appointed the prosecutor behind the charges, Damien Williams.

The indictment involves “charging Robert Menendez, U.S. senator from New Jersey, and his wife, Nadine Menendez, with bribery offenses in connection with their corrupt relationship with three New Jersey businessmen,” the U.S. attorney’s office noted.

NBC News reported Monday that FBI and IRS criminal investigators are investigating whether Menendez or his wife had taken up to $400,000 in cash, gold bars, payments toward a home mortgage, a luxury vehicle, and more from Fred Daibes, a New Jersey developer and former bank chairman, or his associates. Daibes allegedly bribed Menendez to reach out to the Justice Department and aid the “admitted felon” accused of banking crimes.
