At 57, after 31 years of serving at the Campo Border Patrol Station in San Diego County, Syzdek retired in 2007. He loved his job during those three decades, but today, he says he wonders what all his hard work was for.

It was common for him to work an 11-hour day because his team was small, the former agent says, adding that he does not know how many graduations and family functions he missed, but those “sacrifices” were “all for nothing,” he told The Daily Signal during a recent ride-along through the area he used to patrol.

“I think of all the agents, myself included, who were injured on the job and agents who were killed … only to find out that everything was for nothing,” Syzdek said.

“Over the course of my 31 years in Border Patrol, I caught, you know, tens of thousands of aliens,” he said.

“I caught 20,000, let’s say, I kept them out of here. But they’ve let 10 million in … so, everything that I worked for my entire career was for nothing,” he added. “And the only thing I feel good about is the many, many drug loads I busted and people I sent to prison and got the drugs off the streets.”

When he looks at the current situation at the southern border, Syzdek says, “it’s just heartbreaking that we have laws on the books and an agency to enforce the laws, and nobody’s doing it.”

Illegal crossings into the U.S. along California’s border with Mexico are not new. Established smuggling routes, more desirable terrain, and Tijuana’s proximity to San Diego, one of nine sectors along the southern border, have long made the sector a desirable crossing location. Border walls and border security policies worked to drive illegal immigration numbers down significantly in the sector from 2010 to 2020.

The Border Patrol encountered 53,282 illegal aliens between ports of entry in the San Diego Sector in fiscal year 2020, the last full year of President Donald Trump’s presidency. In fiscal year 2021, encounters in the San Diego Sector nearly tripled, rising to 142,459.

Since Joe Biden became president, U.S. Customs and Border Protection has encountered more than 9 million illegal aliens on America’s borders and at ports of entry. That doesn’t include 1.7 million “known gotaways.”

Syzdek says he and the men he served alongside “never imagined in our wildest imagination that our country, that we all worked so hard to defend for those many years that we were in, would have open borders.”

For weeks, the federal government and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott have clashed after the National Guard took control of the 47-acre Shelby Park area in Eagle Pass, Texas. The Texas National Guard has been accused of denying board patrol agents access to the park, leading to multiple legal battles over access.
In a Jan. 26 post on X (formerly Twitter), the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC), the labor union representing agents and support staff, said that Border Patrol agents have no issue with Texas’ efforts to secure its border. The NBPC added that if there are any reports suggesting otherwise, they are simply untrue.

“Rank-and-file Border Patrol agents appreciate and respect what TX has been doing to defend their state in the midst of this catastrophe that the Biden Admin has unleashed on America,” the NBPC said.

“We want to be perfectly clear, there is no fight between rank-and-file BP agents and the TX National Guard, Gov. Abott, or TX Department of Public Safety.”

Last week, the Supreme Court voted in favor of granting the federal government the power to remove barriers installed along stretches of the Texas border. However, Mr. Abbott has argued that nothing prevents him from ordering the National Guard to erect additional barriers and razor wire.

“President Biden has violated his oath to faithfully execute immigration laws enacted by Congress,” Mr. Abbott said in a statement.

“Instead of prosecuting immigrants for the federal crime of illegal entry, President Biden has sent his lawyers into federal courts to sue Texas for taking action to secure the border.”

Mr. Abbott’s stance has gained support from governors in 25 states across the country. Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-Texas) has since called on President Biden to take control of the National Guard if Texas defies the Supreme Court ruling. The NBPC has cast doubt on whether its agents would assist the Biden Administration with any action because the “rank-and-file” in the Border Patrol and the National Guard have great “respect for each other.”

“Rank-and-file BP agents are not going to start arresting TX NG members for following their LAWFUL orders. That’s fake news,” the NBPC said.

“If TX NG members have LAWFUL orders, then they have to carry out those orders. TX NG members realize that rank-and-file BP agents have their orders as well.”

The NBPC also implied that its agents might consider ignoring orders that could be considered unlawful or from a less-than-reputable source.

“Lawful orders, no matter how unpopular or distasteful amongst rank-and-file agents, must be followed,” the NBPC said.

“Unlawful orders, as determined by competent legal counsel and not what some outhouse lawyer behind a keyboard says, will not be followed.”

Enforcing immigration law has traditionally fallen under the federal government’s purview. The Texas state government has cited its constitutional right to have the “sovereign authority to protect its borders because the President refuses to enforce federal immigration laws.” This stance comes as the state struggles to cope with a record-breaking number of illegal immigrants crossing into its territories.

Border Patrol agents from the Douglas, Arizona, station are being called up to help agents at the Tucson migrant processing center, which temporarily holds migrants who illegally cross the border. Border Patrol has roughly 4,600 illegal migrants in custody as of Sunday evening in all of the Tucson sector compared to nearly 20,000 nationwide, two Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials, who requested anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly, told the DCNF.

The agents in Douglas are being called up for “processing and transportation support,” according to the memo. The assignments will also entail sending specialized units, such as horse patrols, and manning sensors for illegal aliens running from law enforcement.

“Until further notice, all specialty units (Sensors, HPU, BCL) will report to the Douglas Station and attend musters on their scheduled shifts,” the memo reads. “HPU will maintain one agent to care for the horses, but all others will be deployed as needed by the Watch Commander.”

The situation in the Tucson sector has become so dire that the Tucson Border Patrol announced Sunday it was temporarily shutting down its social media.

“In light of the ongoing migration surge, all Tucson Sector Border Patrol social media accounts will be paused until further notice,” the announcement read.” We appreciate your understanding and continued support during this challenging time. Honor First.”

Border Patrol has recorded record illegal immigration at the southern border in recent years. In fiscal year 2022, Border Patrol encounters topped 2.2 million, followed by more than 2 million in fiscal year 2023.

“This is embarrassing,” one of the DHS officials said, adding that the blame is on the Biden administration.

“Everybody is getting pulled off the line for processing,” the official added.

CBP didn’t immediately respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.

Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, asked Prather what he thinks about rumors that the U.S. military might end up waging war on the Mexican drug cartels. Prather’s response, in essence, is that the U.S. military is no longer a viable force to stop the drug cartels from taking over (this segment begins around the 16:05 mark in the video below).

“Our military has been infiltrated by espionage, and it has been sabotaged and interdicted as well,” Prather explained. “We can’t even have Border Patrol do their job. Under Trump there were, allegedly, special operations and special forces units operating in Mexico.”

“But to simply think that you can somehow put tanks and armed troops on the border at this point – the cartels are in all the major cities. The cartels are really running the Border Patrol at this point. Waging war in Mexico is way beyond our capabilities at this point.”

There was a time, Prather revealed, when the U.S. military and law enforcement had some degree of force in Mexico and all throughout Central and South America where the drug rings operate. But after all those people were sent to either Afghanistan or Iraq to fight new wars, that presence disappeared.

As a result, the low-level cartels are now freely working with what Prather calls the “corporate” cartels, i.e., pharmaceutical drug companies like Moderna and Pfizer that now control the U.S. government right in plain sight – and most Americans seemingly could not care less.

“If Mexico is largely a narco state, then the United States is a pharma state,” stated the Health Ranger during the interview, illustrating this point in simple terms.

These same corporate drug cartels also now have a presence in communist China and are continuing to make their way eastward to end the emerging markets that are slated to overtake the Western markets, which are in decline and soon to reach freefall collapse.

Running all these corporate cartels and the deadly bioweapons they are manufacturing in order to also manufacture and sell the “cure” is none other than the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and other three-letter intelligence agencies, which are working along with the infiltrated and compromised U.S. military to keep the racket going.

“It is the international intelligence community that is the praetorian guard of the world today,” Prather explained.

The ultimate, long-term strategic goal behind the intelligence community’s weakening of the U.S. at the same time that it enters China and other eastern markets seems to be to erase all national borders for the purpose of creating regional markets for their drugs.

“Moderna is DoD, which is CIA, which is DARPA, BARDA, and IARPA,” Prather further stated.

The narrative from corporate media is that the masses of people flooding across the border are mostly women and children who surrender themselves peacefully to border patrol officers. What media rarely reports on is the increasing number of criminal drug and human smugglers who are taking advantage of the Biden-Harris regime’s open borders policy. Compared to many of the videos we’ve seen of the dangers faced by border patrol officers, this is relatively mild. The illegal alien smuggler did not appear to be armed and wasn’t very big, though he was clearly fit and willing to fight.

Of course, he didn’t see the 260 lb. officer coming from his blind side to take him down like a linebacker.
