Many have speculated in recent days that he would be fired once Trump is back in the Oval Office. Wray was involved in multiple incidents that hampered the first Trump administration as well as efforts to assist the Democrats’ campaigns over the past four years.

Speculation about such a move started circulating shortly after Trump was declared the winner of the 2024 election. Wray, who was appointed by Trump, has had a tumultuous reign over the federal law enforcement agency.

Most recently, he’s been called out by the House Judiciary Committee for “cooking the books” on crime statistics ahead of the election.

Trump supporters have been critical of Wray for years.

With Trump poised to reclaim the White House, Wray’s days as director may be numbered. Though the director’s job carries a 10-year term, Trump’s blistering and repeated criticism of his own appointee raises the likelihood that Trump would either replace Wray upon taking office or that Wray would leave on his own to avoid being fired. Such a move would give Trump a chance to reshape the FBI’s leadership in his own image at a time when he’s threatened to pursue his own political adversaries.

If Christopher Wray doesn’t step down, he’ll almost certainly be fired. Who would be a suitable replacement?

The FBI and the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) said they have “no information suggesting cyber activity against U.S. election infrastructure” that has “compromised the integrity of voter registration information, prevented an eligible voter from casting a ballot, impacted the integrity of any ballots cast, or disrupted the ability to count votes or transmit unofficial election results in a timely manner.”

But the two agencies said that foreign adversaries still might promote “false or misleading narratives” to sway the election or to undermine American confidence in its election systems and processes.

Specifically, the two agencies warned of election-related content produced by artificial intelligence (AI) that has lowered the guardrails for malicious or foreign actors to create more advanced schemes to influence the election.

“We are seeing foreign actors use these tools to develop and distribute more compelling synthetic media messaging campaigns and inauthentic news articles, as well as synthetic pictures and deepfakes (video and audio) at greater speed and scale across numerous U.S.- and foreign-based platforms,” their joint bulletin said.

“These efforts to develop content are designed to undermine voter confidence and to entice unwitting consumers of the information to discuss, share, and amplify the spread of false or misleading narratives.”

In one example of AI-aided content produced by foreign actors ahead of the election, the agency said that Russian groups have “created and deliberately designed” web pages “to look like legitimate mainstream news websites” such as The Washington Post or Fox News.

“Russian malign influence actors also created fake social media profiles posing as U.S. citizens to direct users to these fake news websites and purchased social media advertisements to drive traffic to the specific fake articles on the fake news site,” the two agencies cautioned.

The PSA highlights specific examples of tactics we have seen used by Russia and Iran during the 2024 election cycle to target all Americans. These include things from mimicking national level media outlets like The Washington Post and Fox News and creating inauthentic news sites posing as legitimate media organizations to using paid influencers to hide their hand.

In late September, three Iranian government employees were charged and identified by the Department of Justice for a wide-ranging hacking conspiracy that targeted both current and former U.S. officials as well as political campaigns.

The bulletin was referring to an indictment that was returned last month that accused Masoud Jalili, Seyyed Ali Aghamiri, and Yasar Balaghi of trying to hack the campaign of a presidential candidate, without providing names. But in a news conference last month, Attorney General Merrick Garland confirmed that they were targeting the campaign of former President Donald Trump.

Iran-backed hackers who breached the Trump campaign in June and July sent emails with hacked campaign materials to people associated with President Joe Biden’s campaign as well as various media outlets, said the FBI, CISA, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence last month.

But the agencies said that the the campaign of Biden, who suspended his presidential bid in late July, was not interested in the hacked materials. There is also no evidence the Biden campaign even responded to the emails, which were described by the intelligence and cybersecurity agencies as unsolicited.

“It is important for voters to critically evaluate information sources, particularly as disinformation campaigns evolve to use AI-generated content,” both CISA and the FBI said in a news release accompanying the bulletin. “Both agencies urge the American public to rely on trusted information from state and local election officials and to verify claims through multiple reliable sources before sharing them on social media or other platforms.”

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland and Wray on Oct. 10 regarding allegations that the FBI has not taken sexual misconduct accusations seriously. Grassley said the FBI and the Department of Justice had failed to produce information that he had requested two years ago.

Another group of lawmakers announced an inquiry into the FBI’s actions on Oct. 4, questioning Wray on what the agency has done to make changes in the months following a damning audit by the Department of Justice’s Office of the Inspector General (OIG).

The audit report, released in August, exposed flaws in the FBI’s handling of the sexual abuse cases and in handling tips that it received about sex offenses against children.

A group of 11 senators underscored the urgency of the situation in a joint letter to Wray.

“At a time of historically low trust in American institutions, the FBI continues to undermine its own credibility when it comes to safeguarding our children from predators who wish to do them harm. It is not only outrageous but unacceptable that the FBI continues to fail the victims of sexual abusers. These victims deserve justice,” Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) and 10 other senators stated.

The letter further requested answers from the FBI regarding the failures highlighted in the OIG report and urged the agency to implement reforms in a timely manner.

In light of the OIG findings, Schmitt and his colleagues directed several questions to Wray, including questions about whether the FBI faces any hurdles that hinder compliance with mandatory reporting rules.

Their concerns revolved around the wake of the Larry Nassar scandal, a sports doctor whose clients included champion gymnasts.

Additionally, Schmitt and his colleagues have requested information regarding the disciplinary measures implemented against FBI personnel who have been found consistently negligent in adherence to established rules.

The senators wanted to know how many workers have been fired or put on administrative leave for not following company policy, and for those who were able to resign, they wanted to know what happened before they left.

The lawmakers specifically cited the FBI’s response to the Nassar scandal, after which the agency assured the public that it will do everything possible to ensure that safeguards are in place to keep the failures in that case from happening in the future.

The August report said the FBI has updated its policies, training, and systems since the OIG’s 2021 report on Nassar, but found instances of FBI employees not complying with the relevant law or policy when handling such cases.

Olympic champion Simone Biles and dozens of other victims of sexual assault committed by Nassar sued the FBI for more than $1 billion in June 2022, saying that the bureau ignored their warnings about Nassar’s misconduct. Nassar pleaded guilty in 2017, but his assaults continued after the allegations were reported to the FBI.

A spokesperson for the FBI responded to The Epoch Times’ request for comment, confirming the receipt of both letters and referring to the agency’s previous statement about the OIG report.

“Ensuring the safety and security of children is not just a priority for the FBI; it is a solemn duty that we are committed to fulfilling with the highest standards,” the statement reads.

“The FBI’s efforts combating crimes against children are among the most critical and demanding undertakings we do. … We are committed to maintaining the public’s trust by implementing the necessary improvements to ensure the important changes we made to our Violent Crimes Against Children program in 2018 and 2019 have the intended effect of promoting the highest level of compliance and effectiveness.”

Original Story: In a press conference held on Monday, the FBI provided critical information regarding the suspect in the recent assassination attempt on 2024 GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump. The individual, identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, had previously been the subject of a tip to the FBI, which alleged that he was a felon in possession of a firearm.

“By way of his background, in 2002, as the United States Attorney mentioned, the suspect was charged and convicted in North Carolina for possession of mass destruction,” stated Jeffrey Veltri, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Miami field office. This alarming history raises serious questions about how such individuals are able to evade scrutiny.

Further complicating matters, Veltri revealed, “I can also share with you that he was the subject of a previously closed 2019 tip to the FBI, where it was alleged he was a felon in possession of a firearm. In following up on the tip, the alleged complainant was interviewed and did not verify, I repeat, did not verify providing the initial information. The FBI passed that information to local law enforcement in Honolulu.”

This raises concerns about the effectiveness of the FBI’s follow-up procedures and the reliability of the information received.

On Monday, Routh was formally charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison for the first charge and a potential five-year sentence for the second.

The Secret Service opened fire on Routh as Trump was playing golf in Florida. The suspect was spotted hiding in the bushes with the muzzle of his firearm sticking out through the fence. He fled the scene but was later apprehended on I-95. Authorities reported that an “AK-47 style rifle with a scope, two backpacks which were hung on the fence that had ceramic tile in them, and a GoPro” were discovered in the bushes at the golf course.

This troubling series of events underscores the ongoing threats faced by Trump. It’s for him to hire stout private security to take charge of his safety.

The FBI has since confirmed in a statement that this is part of an ongoing federal investigation into Ritter.

Agents were seen entering his house in Delmar, NY in widely shared photographs and local media footage in the afternoon. It was unclear if Ritter was at home at the time and the allegations at the center of the investigation remain unknown.

“I can confirm FBI personnel are at a home on Dover [Drive] conducting law enforcement activity in connection with an ongoing federal investigation,” a statement from the FBI’s Albany office confirmed. “As the investigation is ongoing, [Department of Justice] policy prevents me from commenting further.”

Ritter became a prominent figure as the chief UN weapons inspector in the 1990s in Iraq and ex-intelligence official (Marine Corp intelligence) who publicly opposed the George W. Bush administration’s drive to take the United States into war with Iraq.

He subsequently became a popular anti-war pundit and leading critic of US foreign policy. For an example of his ongoing criticisms of the US government and foreign policy, he wrote in 2019, “I love my country, but the collective ignorance of the American people empowers so-called public servants who abuse their positions of trust to push policies that further individual agendas at the expense of the nation they ostensibly serve. Fact-based logic no longer matters.”

More recently he has been a fierce critic of US policy related to the war in Ukraine, having also made several trips to Russia during the course of the war which began in February 2022.

Interestingly, just the day prior to the FBI’s raid on his home, Ritter posted a photo of himself eating a burger with independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. “Burgers with Bobby!” the caption reads…

Ritter recently explained during a series of podcast appearances that US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) had seized his passport when he was about to board a flight for Russia on June 3rd. This was first revealed by him days later, and he said the State Dept. had no warrant, nor did it offer an explanation upon taking the passport. A report at the time stated:

Scott Ritter, a retired intelligence officer and UN weapons inspector best known for his correct assertion ahead of the Iraq War that Iraq lacked weapons of mass destruction, as well as for his conviction for sex offenses in 2011 and the lengthy subsequent appeal, has asserted that his passport was seized on the orders of the State Department. 

The American Conservative subsequently approached the State Department for comment, and it responded: “We cannot comment on the status of the passport of a private U.S. citizen.”

In an article by M. Dowling from Independent Sentinel, we learned over the weekend that the Secret Service was in contact with the FBI before their raid on Mar-A-Lago. This goes starkly against public statements by and about the Secret Service, which is responsible for the President’s safety.

As noted on Independent Sentinel:

Judicial Watch published proof that the entire government was involved in the Mar-a-Lago raid. They refused to give Donald Trump a heads-up as they did with Joe Biden, who actually did commit a documented crime.

This information came out last month, but it’s still relevant.

The recording was uncovered in an October 2022 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security for all communications of the U.S. Secret Service internally and with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) regarding the raid on President Trump’s home and for any video or audio recordings made during the raid on August 8, 2022 (Judicial Watch Inc. v. U.S Department of Homeland Security (No. 1:22-cv-03147)).

The proof is in an audio of a phone call between the FBI and the Secret Service, coordinating the assault on Donald Trump’s home.

“The type of recruiting events they have—they have adopted this Marxist culture to permanently change our institutions like the FBI,” Garret O’Boyle, an FBI agent whom House Republicans hailed as a whistleblower, said Tuesday at an Oversight Project event at The Heritage Foundation. “Remember, the FBI are the people with the guns and badges who will come after you.”

O’Boyle was referring to the FBI’s decision to publicly champion identity politics celebrations such as Arab American Heritage Month and to use race as a factor in hiring.

O’Boyle, who became an FBI special agent in July 2018, recounted that he went to Congress in October 2021 to speak about the FBI’s “threat tag” assigned to concerned parents who spoke up at school board meetings.

“The FBI was stonewalling the Congress when they would ask for information about that threat tag,” he said. “I blew the whistle.”

O’Boyle also recalled interviewing an FBI informant within the pro-life movement, asking questions in light of the leak of the Supreme Court’s draft opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, in which a majority of justices overturned the court’s abortion precedent Roe v. Wade. He said his FBI superiors directed him to ask the informant about “how they’re going to attack abortion clinics and things of this nature.”

The days after the May 2022 leak of the Supreme Court’s draft opinion saw attacks on pro-life pregnancy centers and Catholic churches. Pro-abortion vandals attacked Catholic churches at least 236 times and pro-life pregnancy centers at least 90 times, according to Catholic Vote.

O’Boyle said he had driven out to Virginia to take a role at the FBI Academy in Quantico, and his family was in transition.

“I come to Virginia to report, [and] they suspended my security clearance, took my gun, my badge, accused me of leaking information to the media,” O’Boyle recalled.

Yet, he said, he has since heard from another whistleblower that those who accused him of leaking classified information to reporters knew “that was false from the beginning.”

“The FBI rendered us homeless with a 2-week-old baby,” O’Boyle added.

The FBI suspended O’Boyle without pay in September 2022, and he remains in limbo. The FBI refuses to allow him to take another job until he resigns.

Stephen Friend, another FBI whistleblower, said his wife’s Facebook account disappeared after she reached out to someone at the parental rights group Moms for Liberty.

“My wife’s Facebook account was permanently deleted when she sent a private message to someone with Moms for Liberty,” Friend recounted.

The FBI’s Richmond office notoriously cited the Southern Poverty Law Center, a far-left activist group that puts mainstream conservative and Christian groups on a “hate map” alongside chapters of the Ku Klux Klan, in a memo last year about “radical-traditional Catholics.” A few months later, the SPLC added Moms for Liberty to that “hate map.”

Friend said he joined the FBI in 2014 and worked for seven years on Indian reservations. He then worked on child pornography cases in Florida, where he was told “that wasn’t a priority.” Later, he said, he was put on a joint terrorism task force focused on the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

“It was apparent that we were manipulating statistics on those cases,” Friend told The Heritage Foundation audience. He said the FBI planned to send a “tactical team” to arrest a Jan. 6 protester, a significant escalation in Friend’s eyes.

“I came to my supervisor, expressed my concerns,” Friend said. “He activated this process. I had multiple meetings and they facilitated my suspension.”

Both O’Boyle and Friend said the FBI can circumvent laws protecting whistleblowers by suspending security clearances without firing FBI agents.

“Whistleblower protection exists but the FBI has a hack around it, which is they suspend your security clearance,” Friend explained. He said the FBI keeps agents “on unpaid suspension, until they assess whether you’re a threat to national security.”

Although the FBI claimed O’Boyle leaked to the media, Friend said in his case the FBI suspended his security clearance because “I opened the employee handbook improperly.”

“The process is the punishment for so many of us,” he added.

Friend ultimately resigned and joined the Center for Renewing America, a nonprofit organization run by Russell Vought, director of the Office of Management and Budget in the Donald Trump White House. Speaking at Heritage Tuesday, both FBI whistleblowers called for the end of the FBI.

“I think you have to abolish the FBI,” O’Boyle said.

Local police departments often coordinate with police departments in other parts of the country, O’Boyle noted. He conceded that some federal law enforcement agencies may be necessary, such as the Border Patrol, but insisted that the U.S. Marshals Service can take over many of the FBI’s roles.

“I think it needs to be shattered and scattered,” Friend said of the FBI. “Disarm the FBI … make them unarmed investigators, like they originally were, and force them to partner with local agencies.”

Friend urged Americans to press “our federal representatives” so that “it is no longer acceptable for them to say it is worse for us to have a temporary federal government shutdown than to have an armed law enforcement agency that is weaponized against the American people.”

“Our nation’s critical infrastructure sectors, such as energy, chemical and communications, are increasingly relying on UAS for various missions that ultimately reduce operating costs and improve staff safety,” David Mussington, executive assistant director for CISA’s Infrastructure Security, said in a memo that accompanied the report, titled “Cybersecurity Guidance: Chinese-Manufactured UAS.”

“However, the use of Chinese-manufactured UAS risks exposing sensitive information that jeopardizes U.S. national security, economic security, and public health and safety.”

“Urgent attention” must be paid to “China’s aggressive cyber operations to steal intellectual property and sensitive data from organizations,” Mr. Mussington added.

Chinese-made drones have long been a concern in the United States, particularly those made by China-based Da Jiang Innovations (DJI), which is the world’s largest manufacturer of commercial drones. In December 2020, the Commerce Department added DJI to its export control list for being complicit in the Chinese regime’s human rights abuses. Two years later, the Pentagon added DJI to its list of “Chinese military companies” that are operating directly or indirectly in the United States.

The FBI–CISA report doesn’t mention DJI or other Chinese UAS makers by name.

Chinese Laws

However, it highlights the risks associated with using Chinese-made drones by pointing to different Chinese laws, including the National Intelligence Law that took effect in 2017, which compels Chinese companies to hand over data collected within China and elsewhere to Beijing’s intelligence agencies.

“The 2021 Data Security Law expands the PRC’s access to and control of companies and data within China and imposes strict penalties on China-based businesses for non-compliance,” the report says, referring to China’s official name, the People’s Republic of China.

“The 2021 Cyber Vulnerability Reporting Law requires Chinese-based companies to disclose cyber vulnerabilities found in their systems or software to PRC authorities prior to any public disclosure or sharing overseas,” the report adds.

“This may provide PRC authorities the opportunity to exploit system flaws before cyber vulnerabilities are publicly known.”

The report points out three major vulnerabilities that Chinese-made drones can exploit: data transfer and collection, patching and firmware updates, and a broader surface for data collection. Drones controlled by smartphones and other internet-of-things devices could allow foreign intelligence gathering on U.S. critical infrastructure.

Sensitive imagery, surveying data, and facility layouts are some of the vulnerable data that “allow foreign adversaries like the PRC access to previously inaccessible intelligence,” according to the report.

“Without mitigations in place, the widespread deployment of Chinese-manufactured UAS in our nation’s key sectors is a national security concern, and it carries the risk of unauthorized access to systems and data,” Bryan Vorndran, assistant director of the FBI’s Cyber Division, said in a statement.

The memo encourages owners and operators of U.S. critical infrastructure to buy drones that are “secure-by-design,” including those made by U.S. companies. The report provides several cybersecurity recommendations.

Responses

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), chairwoman of the House Republican Conference, and Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wis.), chairman of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), issued a joint statement in response to the report.

“The new Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency report makes clear that Communist Chinese drones present a legitimate national security risk to our critical infrastructure and must be banned from the U.S.,” the lawmakers stated.

“The CCP has subsidized drone companies such as DJI and Autel in order to destroy American competition and spy on America’s critical infrastructure sites. We must ban CCP-backed spy drones from America and work to bolster the U.S. drone industry.”

Last November, a bipartisan group of 11 House lawmakers, including Mr. Gallagher and Ms. Stefanik, sent a letter to the Biden administration, calling for an investigation into Chinese drone maker Autel Robotics, citing national security concerns. The group said the firm is openly affiliated with the Chinese military and “poses a direct threat to U.S. national security as local law enforcement and state and local governments are purchasing and operating Autel drones.”

Mr. Gallagher and Ms. Stefanik also introduced the Countering CCP Drones Act (H.R.2864) in April 2023 to prevent DJI technologies from operating on U.S. communication infrastructure.

Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, advised people interested in purchasing Chinese-made drones to read the security report.

“For years, I’ve been concerned about the security risks associated with drones, including those made in the PRC,” he wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter. “This memo represents a good first step to studying that, and I hope anyone considering purchasing a Chinese drone reads it carefully.”

At this time of low morale and support, it tended to be Republicans who continued supporting the police.

Now, the leading law enforcement agency in the country, the FBI, has allowed itself to become a political weapon, and in doing so lost the confidence of the remaining supporters of police.

The federal agency, which was generally respected for the work it did, has now shown itself as biased and partisan, and certainly lacking in integrity, which is part of the FBI motto. Its persecution of innocent people and ignoring political lawbreaking on the left has left the agency at the mercy of the Democrats who corrupted it in the first place.

Americans realize this and are putting the FBI on notice that a strong majority of the public don’t trust them. Things are so bad that when the FBI posted, “The FBI wishes everyone a safe and happy holiday season!” on X with a picture of a fire in a fireplace, people voiced their displeasure with the agency in the comments. Some were quite funny, but most were scathing:

  • “Are you guys burning evidence that could convict Hunter Biden in that fire?”
  • “🎶Inconvenient citizens roasting on an open fire …”
  • “You being unemployed or in prison is the holiday gift America needs.”
  • “Even their fire leans left.”
  • “In case you haven’t noticed, Americans have lost all respect for you. You have no one to blame but yourselves.”
  • “How fitting! A Dumpster Fire.”
  • “Still investigating churchgoers?”
  • “Good thing the FBI is busy prosecuting grandmas who walked into the Capitol holding a flag on January 6th…”

One respondent summed up the general sentiment best, writing, “Everybody hates you.”

While it might not be everyone who hates the FBI, it is far too many people. A recent Harvard CAPS-Harris poll found that 70% of the respondents were either very or somewhat concerned about interference by the FBI and other intelligence agencies in elections. Forget about Russian interference, more Americans think the FBI is trying to fix the election.

Slightly more respondents (71%) believe that not enough has been done since the 2016 election to stop election interference.

Of course, while the FBI has lost the confidence of Republicans, it has gained support of Democrats. However, it will only have that support so long as it is a useful tool to them. It is a situation of politics making strange bedfellows. The left traditionally hates law enforcement. Sooner or later, it will turn on the FBI, leaving it with no support from either the left or right.

At a time where police are regaining support because rising crime in their absence has shown that police are needed, support for the FBI is falling.

The agency once performed a needed service as federal law enforcement. Now that it has shown it is no longer interested in enforcing the laws of the land, it is showing that it is no longer needed.
