Maybe I’m smoking the hopium pipe on this one but the idea that Russia, after nearly three years of war with Ukraine, is ready to tangle with NATO seems absurd. But here’s the thing. If there’s a one percent chance that we’re on the verge of World War III, then we have to address it. Moreover, I would not put it past the UniParty Swamp and their puppet masters in the Globalist Elite Cabal to try to start a war before Donald Trump is inaugurated. (The Economic Collapse Blog)—Now Joe Biden has really done it.  By giving the green light to long-range missile strikes deep inside of Russian territory, he has brought us closer to nuclear conflict than ever before.  As you will see below, Russian officials have become convinced that “NATO has gone to war with Russia”.  I feel like I am watching a slow-motion train wreck that I am powerless to stop.  I have been warning about this for so many years, and now it is here.  Steve Quayle, Henry Gruver, Dumitru Duduman, Marty Breeden and so many others have also warned America about what is coming.  If we stay on the path that we are on, nuclear weapons will be used.  Do we really want to go down that road?

But the Russians sure do think that it was a big deal…

In Moscow, meanwhile, senior lawmaker Leonid Slutsky slammed Mr. Biden, accusing him of deciding “to end his presidential term and go down in history as ‘Bloody Joe’.”

Senator Vladimir Dzhabarov, meanwhile, told Russia’s state-run Tass news agency that Biden’s decision represented “a very big step toward the beginning of the third world war.”

The official newspaper of the Russian state, Rossiyskaya Gazeta, warned “the madmen who are drawing NATO into a direct conflict with our country may soon be in great pain.”

And according to the Washington Post, one former Kremlin official is warning that “Moscow now believes NATO has gone to war with Russia”…

That is rather chilling. Of course that language echoes something that Vladimir Putin said himself back in September…

Putin had personally warned against the eventuality previously, issuing a warning in September that U.S. permission for Ukraine to fire American-supplied long-range missiles at his country, “would mean that NATO countries, the United States, and European countries, are parties to the war in Ukraine.”

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov referenced that previous statement by Putin when he was specifically asked how the Russian government is viewing the latest developments…

“And here the position of our President, the position of the Russian side, was very clearly and unambiguously formulated by our Head of State in his statement that he made in St Petersburg.

“It says everything very clearly. I simply recommend that you read these words of the President once again.”

Sergey Markov was asked if Vladimir Putin would actually use nuclear weapons once long-range missiles start falling deep inside Russian territory, and he warned that in a worst case scenario “nuclear war happens before Christmas of this year”…

Asked if Putin would use nuclear missiles in response, Mr Markov said ‘not now’ and said it was more likely that bases in eastern Europe could be hit by smaller, tactical nuclear missiles.

But he added: “I think Biden, Macron and Starmer want escalation which could lead to, from my understanding, in the worst scenario, the nuclear war happens before Christmas of this year.

“Probably you will not be able to say ‘Merry Christmas’ because you will stay in the hole trying to hide away [your] family from the nuclear catastrophe. It can develop very, very quickly.”

Personally, I don’t think that it will happen quite so fast. But we are definitely on a road that leads to nuclear war.

After Biden’s announcement, U.S. Representative Thomas Massie stated that Biden had just committed an impeachable offense…

By authorizing long range missiles to strike inside Russia, Biden is committing an unconstitutional Act of War that endangers the lives of all U.S. citizens. This is an impeachable offense, but the reality is he’s an emasculated puppet of a deep state.

I agree with Massie 100 percent.

But there won’t be a move to impeach Biden now.

Most Republicans in Congress are way too lily-livered to do anything like that.

Donald Trump Jr. was also horrified by Biden’s decision…

Yes, Joe Biden is still in the White House, but this was a decision that Donald Trump should have been allowed to make.

Trump needs to come out and immediately denounce what Biden has done, but if he does that he will be accused of “colluding with Putin” and that is something that Trump very much wants to avoid. But Trump can’t be concerned about what others will think at this point.

We are literally on the brink of nuclear war, and we are running out of time to reverse course. In fact, Sweden is so concerned about the possibility of nuclear war that it has “issued five million pamphlets warning its citizens to stockpile food and water”…

Interestingly, on Monday it was being reported that Internet cables under the Baltic Sea have been “suddenly disrupted”…

Two undersea internet cables in the Baltic Sea have been suddenly disrupted, according to local telecommunications companies, amid fresh warnings of possible Russian interference with global undersea infrastructure.

A communications cable between Lithuania and Sweden was cut on Sunday morning around 10:00 a.m. local time, a spokesperson from telecommunications company Telia Lithuania confirmed to CNN.

Did the Russians do that? Were they trying to send us a message?

I just wrote about how vulnerable our undersea Internet cables are last week.

Cutting two cables is not going to disrupt much, but what if the Russians started cutting dozens of cables?

We really are in uncharted territory. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail, because right now the road that we are on only leads to pain.

Published on July 12, the updated plan arrived just one week after the Bill Gates-bankrolled World Health Organization (WHO) sent Dr. Peter Hotez to tell the world that both the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) should be allowed to punish “anti-vaxxers” in the United States. Hotez also mentioned deploying NATO as a weapon against domestic populations that refuse to get jabbed.

A modified version of the Civil Defense Emergency Management Act of 2002, the updated plan grants special powers to government officials to override the law during an “epidemic” or “emergency” to keep the public “safe” from harm.

The updated plan specifies three special powers that are allowed during a “threat:”

1. The power to detain, isolate, or quarantine persons, places, buildings, ships, vehicles, aircraft, and animals
2. The power to prescribe preventive treatment like pharmaceutical drugs or vaccines to people – those who refuse will fall into the first special power category
3. The power to allow police forces to “do anything reasonably necessary (including the use of force) to help a medical officer of health or any person authorised by the medical officer of health in the exercise or performance of powers or functions under sections 70 or 71”

That third bullet point is especially threatening in that it allows weapons-brandishing state agents to harm people who refuse to submit to the enforcement of these special powers.

New Zealand initially decided to make these changes on March 19, 2020, right before the Wuhan coronavirus (covid-19) was declared to be a global “pandemic.” At the time, The New Zealand Herald published an entire article about the need for an updated pandemic plan, which has now arrived.

The first pandemic plan in New Zealand was introduced in 2006. It was then updated in 2017 to reflect the passage of new legislation as well as changes in population and demographics. Now, version three of the plan has been unleashed, and it is a real doozy.

Imperial College London created a model that New Zealand used to assess how to recreate its pandemic plan. British physicist Neil “Professor Lockdown” Ferguson is credited with masterminding it, though there is much controversy surrounding his lack of accuracy.

“Ferguson is one of a small group of global ‘scientists’ whose job is to control the narrative,” reports The Exposé about who Ferguson really is. “The real driving force behind updating pandemic preparedness is WHO.”

No longer is the word “influenza” included in the title of New Zealand’s pandemic plan, thanks to Ferguson’s input. This means the range of what can be considered a “pandemic” has expanded to include pretty much anything.

According to The Exposé, the first time “special powers” were actually used in New Zealand was for covid, also known as “the dummy run.” The next time around will be a hell unlike anything the people of this world have ever seen or could ever comprehend.

“The updated pandemic plan covers the health system response,” the Ministry of Health ominously said in a statement about the changes. “It does not cover the all-of-government or wider societal response to a pandemic. It is also only one tool for developing the health system’s preparedness.”

“Each initiative is different, but the main goal is the same: Harness the unique strengths of highly capable democracies to address shared global challenges,” he told the NATO Summit Defense Industry Forum on July 9.

The latest initiative ties Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, and Japan to NATO’s changing focus and aim to modernise capabilities.

Mr. Sullivan said the group was overhauling its command structure so partner nations could “rapidly shift to [a] war footing” if needed and know where to take orders from.

Further, NATO will implement “regionally focused plans” to ensure the body has the weapons and force needed to confront threats from “any direction or even multiple directions at once.”

“This is about readiness,” he said. “Under the new model, allies will know how many troops they are expected to muster in a crisis—and how quickly. For example, within 10 days, allies could have 100,000 forces where they need to be.

“Within a month, that number would double. And in the ensuing weeks, it would grow to 500,000.

“That has never been done before. NATO has now done it.”

Mr. Sullivan said the alliance’s focus was about counteracting the military expansion from Russia, Iran, North Korea, and the Chinese Communist Party.

“What happens in Europe impacts the Indo-Pacific. What happens in the Indo-Pacific impacts Europe,” he said.

The “no limits” partnership between Moscow and Beijing has raised concerns that conflict in Ukraine could have ramifications in the Asia-Pacific.

“For us to think that we live in a sequestered part of the world that is not affected by those conflicts is, frankly, foolishness,” warned former Australian Attorney-General George Brandis, in a speech to the Australian National University.

Meanwhile, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said the alliance would push for the 2 percent floor on defence spending to become a requirement going forward, not just an aspiration.

“This is a result of a collective decision and collective responsibility,” Mr. Stoltenberg said.

Orban, who is a vocal critic of Western involvement in the Ukraine conflict, has repeatedly warned that ever more escalatory steps by the U.S.-led military bloc could eventually lead to a direct military confrontation with Russia, yielding catastrophic consequences. Russia has also warned the Western backers of Ukraine of the same outcome. So far, no retaliatory moves have been made by Moscow to follow through with its threats, so NATO continues to push further.

On Friday, Orban paid a surprise visit to Moscow, where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Hungarian prime minister’s office clarified that he was on a “peacekeeping mission.” The discussion between the two leaders centered on potential ways to peacefully resolve the Ukraine conflict. Wrapping up the talks, Orban acknowledged that Moscow’s and Kyiv’s positions remain very “far apart.” He added, however, that “we’ve already taken the most important step – establishing contact,” and vowed to continue the effort. –RT

Hungary is a NATO member and has been since 1999. This is not the first time that Hungary has taken a stance that differs from the rest of NATO.

Orban was quoted as saying: “Today, instead of peace, the agenda is the pursuit of war; instead of defense, it is offense.” But when it comes to the U.S., war has always been about offense and involvement in conflicts.

He added that “ever more voices within NATO are making the case for the necessity—or even inevitability—of military confrontation with the world’s other geopolitical power centers.” He warned that this attitude “functions like a self-fulfilling prophecy.”

According to Orban, unless NATO changes tack now, “it will be committing suicide.

Needless to say, losing Ukraine’s second largest city is not an option for Ukraine’s western backers, and they are determined to do whatever it takes to keep that from happening.

It would be hard to overstate the importance of what we just witnessed.  Russian forces have come across the border in an area that is far away from any other current conflict zone.  UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron says that Russia has basically “invaded [Ukraine] again”…

A Ukrainian regional official insisted Russia’s progress was not yet “significant” but admitted ground fighting in the area was spreading. Meanwhile, speaking on British television, UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron acknowledged it was an “extremely dangerous moment,” adding that Russia had effectively “invaded [Ukraine] again.”

He is right. This move by Russia really is essentially a fresh “invasion”, and it represents the most dramatic offensive that the Russians have undertaken since the early days of the war. According to CBS News, the Russians were able to capture five villages on Saturday and four more on Sunday…

Evacuation teams worked non-stop throughout the day to take residents, most of whom were elderly, out of harm’s way.

At least 4,000 civilians have fled the Kharkiv region since Friday, when Moscow’s forces launched the operation, Gov. Oleh Syniehubov said in a social media statement. Heavy fighting raged Sunday along the northeast front line, where Russian forces attacked 27 settlements in the past 24 hours, he said.

The Russian Defense Ministry said on Sunday that its forces had captured four villages, in addition to five villages reported to have been seized the day before.

It is being estimated that the Russians are in control of about 100 square kilometers in the border area, and this advance is going to force Ukrainian leaders to transfer forces from other areas…

Russian Federation forces have penetrated the defenses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from 3 to 5 km in Kharkov region, with a control zone in the border area to 110 square kilometers.

This will have a ripple effect in all the 600-mile-long frontline. As soon as Ukrainian top General Syrsky begins to transfer units to the northern regions of Kharkov and Sumy, the front in Donetsk will fold, and Chasov Yar, Kurakhovo and Krasnoarmeysk are expected to instantly collapse.

Ukrainian Armed Forces in fact have withdrawn some of the units of the 42nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade from the front near Chasov Yar and are hastily transferring troops north.

Of course the Ukrainians don’t have enough soldiers anywhere at this stage.

The Russians have been steadily gaining ground all over the map in recent weeks, and over the weekend significant gains were made near Chasiv Yar and Krasnohorivka…

It is not just in Ukraine’s north that Kyiv’s armed forces are losing ground.

DeepStateMap also shows Russia making further gains in two other key areas, most notably towards the town of Chasiv Yar, which has become an important forward military position, and further south in the industrial town of Krasnohorivka, where Russian troops are now in control of the town’s main facility, a brick factory.

Ukraine is clearly losing the war, and western leaders are getting desperate.

When asked about the new Russian offensive near Kharkiv, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken told Face the Nation that we “are not going anywhere”…

“We’ve been providing the systems to do that, but it’s a challenging moment. We are not going anywhere, and neither are more than some 50 countries that are supporting Ukraine. That will continue and if [Russian President Vladimir] Putin thinks he can outlast Ukraine, outlast its supporters. He’s wrong.”

The U.S. is going to continue to pour billions of dollars into Ukraine, but everyone can see that isn’t going to be enough to alter the trajectory of the conflict.

The only way that Ukraine will be able to win is for NATO to intervene directly, and that is dangerously close to becoming a reality.

For example, politicians in Germany actually want to use NATO air defense systems based in Poland and Romania “to protect the western regions of Ukraine from Russian drones”…

There is a proposal to use NATO air defense systems deployed on the eastern borders of the Alliance to protect the western regions of Ukraine from Russian drones. In particular, Poland and Romania could do this.

This idea is supported by representatives of some German political parties, including the ruling Free Democratic Party (FDP) and the Union 90/Greens.

According to the newspaper, the idea of using NATO air defense systems deployed in Romania and Poland and operated by NATO forces to shoot down Russian drones over Western Ukraine was proposed by Nico Lange, an expert at the Munich Security Council (MSC) and former NATO Deputy Secretary General, and was suggested by Lieutenant General Horst Heinrich Braus.

According to Lange, this would create a 70-kilometer safe zone on the Ukrainian border. This could relieve Ukrainian air defense forces in other parts of the front.

It is also being reported that the Germans are now considering conscripting all 18-year-olds…

Germany is considering introducing conscription for all 18-year-olds, as it looks to boost its troop numbers in the face of Russian military aggression.

Military planners in Berlin are in the final stages of discussing three options, two of which involve a form of conscription, according to leaked plans reported in the German media.

I was stunned when I saw that.

I don’t think that young people in Germany will be too thrilled about being forced to go into the military. But this is where we are at.

NATO really is on the brink of a hot war with Russia.

Speaking of NATO, the largest military exercises that the alliance has organized since the Cold War are being conducted right now…

State-of-the-art attack helicopters today swooped in a show of force against Vladimir Putin for NATO’s biggest military exercise since the Cold War.

British and US troops performed a land assault in Estonia, amid the threat posed by the Kremlin. They were supported by two of our Apache AH-64E attack helicopters, making their debut in an alliance exercise.

Explosions rang out during the exercise, with troops simulating a battlefield scenario of seizing territory. Over two years on from Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the wargame took place under Exercise Swift Response.

During the early stages of 2024, there has been a lot of chatter about the possibility of western troops being sent to Ukraine.

If that happens, that will put us just one step away from nuclear war.

What would you do if you were the president of the United States and you just learned that the Russians have launched their nukes?

Whoever is in the White House when that day arrives will only have a very limited amount of time to decide…

Once the president learns from his nuclear command and control team that he must act, he has only six minutes to respond. To “respond” means responding with our own nuclear weapons. President Ronald Reagan lamented in his memoir that six minutes is an irrational amount of time to “decide whether to release Armageddon! …Six minutes to decide how to respond to a blip on a radar scope…How could anyone apply reason at a time like that?”

Yet, the president must respond anyway. In this six-minute window, the president must decide how many nuclear weapons to use and which targets to strike—while also being briefed on estimates of how many tens of thousands, or millions of people, would be instantly incinerated, with an almost equal number dying days, weeks, and months later from radiation poisoning. All this to consider under a literal ticking clock.

As I keep warning my readers, the Russians have been feverishly preparing to fight a nuclear war for many years and we have not.

If the Russians launch missiles from ultra-quiet submarines parked just off our shores, the nukes will start hitting before they can even get the president out of bed.

It is imperative that we avoid such a scenario, and that is why I have been pushing for a peaceful solution in Ukraine for a long time.

Unfortunately, no peaceful solution is even being considered.

Leaders on both sides are absolutely obsessed with “winning” this war, and that means that “nuclear Armageddon” is getting closer with each passing day.

Speaking to the Polish-language publication Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, Brig. Gen. Jaroslaw Strozyk specifically mentioned scenarios including possible Russian incursions into the Estonian city of Narva, right on the border with Russia, or possibly even seizing control of strategic Swedish islands in the Baltic Sea. Despite these ominous possibilities, Strozyk pointed out that recent Western support for Ukraine has conveyed a robust message to Moscow. He believes that the collective efforts of the West demonstrate a unified stance against Russian aggression, potentially deterring Putin from launching an attack on NATO member states.

In a significant move, Polish President Andrzej Duda has affirmed Poland’s readiness to deploy nuclear forces along its borders if deemed necessary. Duda highlighted Russia’s increasing militarization of Kaliningrad and the relocation of nuclear weapons to Belarus as alarming developments. He stressed Poland’s willingness to host nuclear arms as part of NATO’s efforts to bolster its eastern flank, showcasing the nation’s commitment to collective defense.

Given Poland’s strategic position bordering Belarus and the heavily fortified Kaliningrad enclave, the country remains a pivotal player in the ongoing tensions with Russia. Duda underscored the operational readiness of Polish military units, emphasizing their ability to respond swiftly to any potential threat, with a remarkable readiness time of just three hours from deployment.

NATO claims Putin’s next target after Ukraine may be the Baltics

In an opinion piece published on Bloomberg, former NATO Supreme Allied Commander and retired United States Navy Adm. James Stavridis warned that, should Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine succeed, Putin may be interested in striking at the nations bordering the Baltic Sea, which has been dubbed a “NATO lake” by some analysts due to it being surrounded by NATO member nations: Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany and Denmark.

Russia still retains access to the Baltic through the enclave of Kaliningrad and through the approaches to the city of St. Petersburg.

While Stavridis himself is confident that, in the event of a conflict between Russia and NATO, “any of Russia’s warships” in the Baltic could be “quickly and easily bottled up or destroyed.”

Other officials, meanwhile, are not so optimistic about a possible victory. Maj. Gen. Vadym Skibitsky, deputy head of Ukraine’s main military intelligence directorate, warned that Russia could “take the Baltics in seven days.”

“The Russians will take the Baltic in seven days. NATO’s reaction time is 10 days,” warned Skibitsky during an interview with The Economist, as he warned of the threat Moscow poses on other nations in Europe.

This warning comes as Ukraine grows increasingly concerned of more Russian breakthroughs. Skibitsky specifically spoke about the situation in Chasiv Yar, a strategic stronghold for Ukraine in the Donetsk Oblast. Analysts warn that Putin’s military has been concentrating its efforts on seizing the town, and Skibitsky warned that Russia will probably soon overtake Ukrainian forces for control of Chasiv Yar.

“Not today or tomorrow, of course, but all depending on our reserves and supplies,” warned Skibitsky.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto agreed with this assessment. He has condemned the latest remarks from Macron about the option of sending troops to Ukraine and has warned such a move could ultimately spark an all-out nuclear war.

While speaking to French broadcaster LCI as reported by RT on Thursday, Szijjarto was asked for his take on Macron’s renewed threat to deploy his country’s troops to back up Kiev against Russia. The diplomat strongly condemned the idea, saying that the French leader’s comments themselves have contributed to escalating the situation.

“If a NATO member commits ground troops, it will be a direct NATO-Russia confrontation and it will then be World War Three,” Szijjarto told the broadcaster.

Russia has repeatedly warned the West of further interference, and the West continues to interfere. So far, Russia has exercised restraint while focusing on destroying the equipment and weapons sent to Ukraine.

Macron made newer remarks regarding boots on the ground in an interview with The Economist that was published on Thursday. He doubled down on previous statements about the prospect of deploying French troops to Ukraine. The president said his original remarks, made earlier this year, were a “strategic wake-up call for my counterparts.” He suggested that Paris could deploy troops “if the Russians were to break through the front lines” and a request for help came from Kiev.

“In peacetime, it would be different, but in wartime such statements can be misinterpreted and have serious consequences,” Szijjarto stated, warning that, should the situation escalate into a global nuclear war, “it will be over for everyone.”

NATO leadership is ultimately seeking to “Trump-proof” support for the Ukraine war amid growing ‘fears’ the GOP frontrunner will take the White House after November, after which he’s expected to pull the plug on Biden’s billions for Ukraine.

Well-known career diplomat Chas Freeman told Responsible Statecraft that this scheme is “a case of throwing good money—in this case, borrowed money—after bad.”

Freeman explained, “NATO has run out of Ukrainians to sacrifice on the battlefield as well as the armaments production needed to equip the existing, greatly depleted Ukrainian armed forces. A bond fund will neither create more Ukrainians nor produce more weapons to arm those who have so far survived.”

Stoltenberg has been fairly transparent about his aims, with the Financial Times saying he’s doing it as a means “to shield the mechanism against the winds of political change.“

Freeman has commented further that what Ukraine and Europe really need “is peace, and this demands negotiations with Russia.”

“This is a shameless attempt to use financial capitalism to avoid that reality, while further enriching munitions manufacturers. NATO is not a hedge fund and should not attempt to behave like one,” he continued. “When alliances attempt to borrow money for lost causes, you would be right to judge that they know the jig is up.”

As for Stoltenberg’s words before NATO foreign ministers on Wednesday, he said Ukraine’s government and military still has “urgent needs” and that “any delay in providing support has consequences on the battlefield as we speak.”

“We must ensure reliable and predictable security assistance to Ukraine for the long haul so that we rely less on the voluntary contributions and more on NATO commitments, less on short-term offers and more on multiyear pledges,” Stoltenberg said. “The reason why we do this is the situation on the battlefield in Ukraine. It is serious … We see how Russia is pushing, and we see how they try to win this war by just waiting us out.”

But… as we reported previously, Hungary stands firmly in the way, having already announced its “opposition to increasing NATO’s coordination role in arms deliveries and training Ukrainian forces, refusing to participate in planning, operations, or funding,” according to a foreign ministry statement.

“If Ukraine falls, I really believe that NATO will be in a fight with Russia,” Austin stated.

What’s more is that this came the very day that Russian President Vladimir Putin warned things could easily spiral toward nuclear war in the scenario that NATO sends troops to Ukraine. Watch:

According to the fuller context of the Pentagon chief’s statements, he emphasized that more Washington funding is crucial for Ukraine in order to prevent a situation where “one country can redraw its neighbors’ boundaries and illegitimately take over its sovereign territory.”

“We know that if Putin is successful here, he will not stop. He will continue to take more aggressive actions in the region. And other leaders around the world, other autocrats around the world will look at this and will be encouraged by the fact that this happened and we failed to support a democracy,” he added.

“If you are a Baltic state, you are really worried about whether you are next. They know Putin. They know what he is capable of. And, frankly, if Ukraine falls, I really believe that NATO will be in a fight with Russia,” Austin said.

What is even more alarming about this statement is that everyone now knows that Ukraine forces are in retreat at this very moment, especially after the Russian capture of the city of Avdiivka, and surrounding villages.

Bloomberg on Thursday issued a report predicting total collapse of the Ukrainian front lines by summer, as the headline suggests (Ukraine Sees Risk of Russia Breaking Through Defenses by Summer): “Ukrainian officials are concerned that Russian advances could gain significant momentum by the summer unless their allies can increase the supply of ammunition, according to a person familiar with their analysis,” the report says. Internal assessments of the situation on the battlefield from Kyiv are growing increasingly bleak as Ukrainian forces struggle to hold off Russian attacks while rationing the number of shells they can fire.

Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said Thursday that mistakes by frontline commanders had compounded the problems facing Ukraine’s defenses around Avdiivka, which was captured by Russian forces this month. Syrskyi said he’d sent in more troops and ammunition to bolster Ukrainian positions.

So the consensus narrative and belated mainstream media admission is that Ukraine’s military is a mere months away from clear defeat, and the top US defense chief just said NATO will go to war with Russia “if Ukraine falls”.

The conflict has reached a dire and perilously unpredictable moment indeed, and clearly the already slim chances of jump-starting serious peace negotiations to end the war are slipping away fast.

Estonia announced that with the help of Latvia, and Lituania, hundreds of new bunkers will be built. Defense ministers of the three Baltic states met in Riga and approved the construction of what they called “anti-mobility defensive installations” on their eastern borders  “to repel possible Russian aggression.”

Notice the use of the word “possible”, and not “likely?” Isn’t anything possible?

The Estonian Defense Ministry has estimated that around 600 bunkers will be necessary for the project, according to the outlet Postimees.

As part of the “Baltic Defense Line,” Estonia pledged to build hundreds of concrete bunkers, each about 35 square meters in size and capable of housing 10 soldiers. They would be placed along the 294-kilometer border with Russia and linked with a network of support points and supply lines, according to a report by RT. 

Kaido Tiitus, an aide at the Defense Ministry, told the state broadcaster ERR that landmines, razor wire, and “dragon’s teeth” anti-tank obstacles will be stored nearby so they can be quickly deployed in case they are needed, Additionally, the bunkers will reportedly need to be able to survive a direct hit from a 152mm artillery shell.

“There is a big question mark over selling land in south-east Estonia, for example, because people there do not want to sell land, the land is important to them, whether it has some kind of traditional value or whether it’s purely farmland that keeps people’s souls alive in that far corner of the country,” Tiitus said.

Tiitus said the fortifications would “not be designed as eyesores or to disrupt everyday life.”

Historically, bunkers and fortification lines such as this one have failed.

Border fortifications have had a controversial history in Europe since France’s Maginot Line, built between the world wars to defend the border with Germany. Nazi armies ended up going around the series of concrete bunkers and gun emplacements, defeating the French in just six weeks.

Albania’s Communist leader Enver Hoxha had more than 750,000 concrete bunkers built around the country between 1967 and 1986, to fortify against possible invasions from both NATO and the Soviet bloc that never materialized. – RT
