“Today, the New York City Council voted to pass legislation establishing municipal efforts to acknowledge and address the legacy and impact of slavery and racial injustices in New York City.” – New York City Council. This announcement raises eyebrows. Why now? What’s the real agenda behind this sudden urgency?

After seemingly rushing through this legislation, Hudson and Louis are touting it as a transformative step for the city. Hudson claims, “I hope the legislation will identify racist, anti-Black policies at the foundation of our city’s institutions and it will yield material solutions to address these foundational cracks.”

Louis added, “This legislation is a crucial step towards justice and equity.”

“Equity” has become synonymous with woke discrimination as “white guilt” permeates the left. And, of course, the timing of this legislation, with the 2024 elections looming, certainly raises questions about its motivations.

Hudson further elaborated, “The passage of these bills represents a significant step for New York City. The harm slavery caused Black Americans continues to be felt today. Our nation’s inability to properly redress such a historic wrong allows this deep injustice to continue to manifest itself in distinct, tangible ways––be it the prison-industrial complex, predatory lending, redlining, or inequality in our school systems.”

Why should taxpayers today be held accountable for the sins of the distant past? They shouldn’t.

“When I first ran for office in 2021, I released A Black Agenda for New York City, outlining six bold recommendations that would meet the urgency of the racial reckoning facing our city. One of those recommendations was the creation of a citywide Truth, Healing, and Reconciliation process centered on acknowledging the city’s racist practices and historic treatment of Black New Yorkers.” Hudson said.

Not everyone is on board with this initiative. Minority Leader Joseph Borelli voiced his discontent, stating, “I’ll move before I’ll pay. If they can introduce me to one New Yorker who owned a slave I’d be happy to consider it. But until then, I am not paying a dime as a reparation for a harm I did not cause, nor condone, nor once participated in.”

His words resonate with many who feel that this reparations program is not only unjust but also a idiotic. Will there be a mass exodus as a result of this move? If it sticks, yes, there will be many who leave out of principle and practicality.

This is election year pandering that will have lasting real world consequences as white people are pressured to accept responsibility for something they neither wanted nor allowed.

The man who once played a slave in “Roots” recently found out that his great, great grandfather is not only white, but was also a Confederate soldier. That certainly adds a twist of lime to his race-baiting drink of choice.

Adding insult to injury, “Dilbert” creator Scott Adams hit Burton with a conundrum:

“How much does he owe himself in reparations?”

Like many communities across the United States, West Oakland has an industrial past that has since been replaced with housing and other uses. As a result, the people who live there are sometimes exposed to hidden chemicals in the soil, which can only be remedied, according to West Oakland residents, by delivering “climate justice.”

Because of the media’s constant fearmongering about man-made “climate change,” area residents now fear that the waters of the San Francisco Bay will rise so much that pockets of pollution will end up getting strewn across their yards and in their local playgrounds. More than 130 sites, they claim, are now at risk of contamination.

So-called “climate scientists” are also fueling the paranoia by publicly warning that plumes of toxic waste will migrate underground as sea levels rise, exposing people of color to contamination.

“These are environmental health issues that need to be addressed now,” proclaimed Rachel Morello-Frosch, a researcher with Toxic Tides, a program of UC Berkeley that receives funding to fearmonger about this mythical threat.

Only black people are negatively affected by toxins that require reparations, according to activists

Frosch reportedly told NPR that she believes financial reparations need to be delivered immediately in order to save West Oakland’s communities of color from the toxic tides – but only those with dark skin, apparently.

White people who live in the area are of no concern, it would appear since the demanded climate reparations are also supposedly necessary to address “historical racism in housing, economics, and the policies of the past,” to quote one news source.

“The reparation movement is the next level of civil rights,” said 75-year-old black woman, environmental activist, and area resident Margaret Gordon, who says she fears that hidden underground toxins will only add to the severe environmental challenges in West Oakland.

“We should not be in a position of just surviving – we should be thriving,” she added. “There’s tons of pollution, or toxics, in the ground. You cannot put up a garden without having your soil tested. It still comes down to race.”

What Gordon meant by “it still comes down to race,” in this context, would seem to imply that only black people are dealing with toxins in West Oakland. Area residents with white or light skin are apparently not under any threat from hidden underground toxins, and thus do not need or deserve any climate reparations.

In Gordon’s view, climate justice will help “historically marginalized communities,” to quote the DailyMail Online (U.K.), to repair the harm caused by past decisions to allow toxic industries to operate in their neighborhoods, “essentially devaluing the lives of black people.”

“Let’s talk about reparations,” Gordon said. “We would have longstanding sustainability. I would know there’s going to be housing for my children and grandchildren, so there’ll be a job for them.”

Gordon told the media that she believes black people in West Oakland were confined to the toxic neighborhoods because of racist lending policies, which prevented them from seeking housing elsewhere.

“The full freedom to say, ‘I can leave or I can stay,’” Gordon demanded. “Or, ‘I have the freedom, the values, and the finances to make the future I want.’”

Now, he has panned his own reparations task force and taken a far more sane stance on how to “pay back” Black Californians in a state that didn’t exist when slavery did. According to Fox News:

California Gov. Gavin Newsom declined to endorse the cash payments – which could reach as high as $1.2 million for a single recipient – recommended by his reparations task force, telling Fox News Digital that dealing with the legacy of slavery “is about much more than cash payments.”

“The Reparations Task Force’s independent findings and recommendations are a milestone in our bipartisan effort to advance justice and promote healing. This has been an important process, and we should continue to work as a nation to reconcile our original sin of slavery and understand how that history has shaped our country,” Newsom said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

While the Democratic governor applauded the task force’s work, he declined to endorse any specific recommendations, though he pledged to continue to “advance systemic changes that ensure an inclusive and equitable future for all Californians.”

This definitely doesn’t match the tone he had in 2021 or even last year when he was so gung ho about reparations. It seems like more a play for national acceptance, something he’d only need if he intends to run for president.

It could also be a play to keep him as the backup quarterback. If the plan is to go with Joe, then Newsom could be trying to keep his nose clean just in case Biden’s fading mental acuity or plethora of scandals pulls him from the race.
