Student Loans – American Conservative Movement https://americanconservativemovement.com American exceptionalism isn't dead. It just needs to be embraced. I fully support his run for the Democrat nomination for president. My ideal scenario has him winning the nomination before soundly loses to Donald Trump in the general election. I’d even want to see RFK Jr play some role in Trump’s administration. I posted an idea on Twitter:

I’ve seen many Republicans and even full-blown conservatives embrace RFK Jr all the way, as in hoping that he can be the next president. On the issue of the Covid-19 “vaccines,” he’s the best on either side of the aisle. He’s strongly opposed to aid for Ukraine, has shown support for the 2nd Amendment, and has called out the likes of Bill Gates and Klaus Schwab over climate change despite being an environmentalist himself. But as the article below by Catherine Yang highlights, conservatives must know that RFK Jr is still a Democrat and holds many positions that run contrary to ours. Keep that in mind before becoming a “RFK Republican.” Here’s Catherine’s article…

Republicans took to Twitter to applaud the Supreme Court while Democrats chided President Joe Biden for not doing more after Friday’s ruling striking down the president’s debt forgiveness program.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr, who has announced his intent to run against Biden in the 2024 primaries for the Democratic presidential candidate, joined voices criticizing Biden after the ruling.

The unfortunate SCOTUS ruling striking down President Biden’s #studentloan forgiveness program was the predictable result of Biden’s failure to bring Congress together on this issue of crucial importance to young Americans,” Kennedy wrote on Twitter.

“President Biden knew his plan wouldn’t survive a legal challenge. His plan gave the appearance of action, while accomplishing nothing. This is an issue of grave importance to our country. As President, I will galvanize public support to pressure Congress to put down their partisan positions and legislate meaningful relief to the tens of millions of Americans who are drowning in student debt.”

Kennedy also addressed the costs of higher education, including a way to provide it at no cost to students.

“I will also take steps to reduce education costs for students. When I was their age, a college education cost about one-seventh of what it is today. A young person could work their way through college and graduate debt-free. If we devoted even a fraction of our military budget to higher education, it could be virtually free to all (as it is in many other countries),” he continued.

Kennedy has called for de-escalating the war in Ukraine, saying the United States has had many opportunities to do so.

“Funding higher education is not an entitlement program, it is an investment in America’s future, just as with infrastructure and environment. Let’s invest in America’s young people instead of in the forever wars,” he continued.

A June 10–13 poll (pdf) showed Kennedy had the highest favorability rating among presidential candidates at 49 percent, exceeding both Biden and Trump.

He has highlighted these numbers, including 20 percent of Democrats in New Hampshire, in his campaigning while acknowledging that he might not have the traditional support from the Democratic Party or donors. Some have speculated that his favorability will drop as Democrats come to familiarize themselves with his platform.

Earlier this week, Ray Buckley, chairman of the N.H. Democratic Party, posted a letter asking Kennedy to cancel his speech at a local libertarian event, PorcFest.

“We must express our serious disappointment and grave concerns about your planned participation in this event,” he wrote.

Kennedy responded in the negative on Twitter: “The Democratic Party Bosses who promote censorship, who have stripped New Hampshire of its rightful First in the Nation primary status, who have shut down debate, who refuse to campaign in New Hampshire, are in no position to tell me who to talk to. I’m going to speak at Porcfest because I believe in freedom, unity, healing the divide, and truth.#LiveFreeorDie.”

Student Loan Forgiveness Scheme Unlawful https://americanconservativemovement.com/student-loan-forgiveness-scheme-unlawful/ https://americanconservativemovement.com/student-loan-forgiveness-scheme-unlawful/#comments Fri, 30 Jun 2023 16:02:54 +0000 https://americanconservativemovement.com/?p=194189 The Supreme Court has decided that the Biden administration acted unlawfully when it claimed authority to cancel hundreds of billions of dollars in student loans for tens of millions of borrowers.

Student loan cancellation is for now a vain hope for advocates who sought to transfer the debts of college-educated Americans to those taxpaying Americans who already paid their debts, earned their scholarships, or succeeded without going to college.

The scheme would have canceled $10,000 in student-loan debt for each borrower earning less than $125,000, up to $20,000 for each borrower under the income cutoff if that borrower received a Pell grant, or less than $250,000 if the borrower files taxes as married or as head of household.

Lindsey Burke, director of the Center for Education Policy at The Heritage Foundation, and I wrote in August 2022 that the plan suffered from several policy and legal infirmities. (The Daily Signal is the news outlet of The Heritage Foundation.) Besides being unlawful, it was expensive, regressive, arbitrary, and fundamentally unjust, and it created a host of moral hazards including incentives for future tuition increases. The $600 billion in cancellation would have meant more than $2,000 in higher taxes per taxpayer.

Regarding the brazen unlawfulness of the scheme, the Supreme Court has pointed out that the U.S. Department of Education simply does not have the authority to cancel student debt on a massive scale using the authority it claimed to find in the Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions (HEROES) Act. That’s what former Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos’s general counsel, Reed Rubinstein, had already determined in January 2021.

But the current administration argued that the HEROES Act, which empowers the Secretary of Education to waive or amend student loan rules for affected parties due to emergencies such as a war or a natural disaster, so that they would not be worse off due to the emergency, could be extended to loan forgiveness across the entire country due to the pandemic emergency (which is now long past).

The Supreme Court disagreed.

“The major questions doctrine,” as the plaintiff in an early case not before the Court noted in September 2022, “requires a clear authorization by Congress of such an economically and politically significant action, which is lacking here. … Without a valid source of authority, the Secretary [of Education] ‘literally has no power to act’” (quoting a different case).

Congress did not put a massive loan bailout in the HEROES Act.

That September 2022 case never made it to the Supreme Court because as soon as it was filed, the Department of Education changed the parameters of the bailout scheme to prevent the plaintiff from having standing. It kept changing the rules to try to stay out of court.

But two cases survived. In one case, several states argued that they would uffer financial harm. That gave Missouri, for example, standing to sue. In the other case, in Texas, the plaintiffs got standing by claiming the public was not given a chance to comment on the cancellation scheme.

The Court decided that Missouri did have standing and that the Department of Education exceeded its authority.

Although that’s the end of student loan “forgiveness,” the Department of Education has hatched another student loan scheme that will cost hundreds of billions of dollars. Massive changes to income-based repayment will make college free for substantial numbers of borrowers by cutting in half their payment amounts, cutting in half their time to loan cancellation, and dramatically raising the amount of exempted income.

Will any plaintiffs have standing against this new scheme once the final regulations are released? Time will tell.

Karine Jean-Pierre Says They Don’t Know How Much Debt Forgiveness Will Cost But She Somehow Knows It’s Paid For https://americanconservativemovement.com/karine-jean-pierre-says-they-dont-know-how-much-debt-forgiveness-will-cost-but-she-somehow-knows-its-paid-for/ https://americanconservativemovement.com/karine-jean-pierre-says-they-dont-know-how-much-debt-forgiveness-will-cost-but-she-somehow-knows-its-paid-for/#comments Thu, 25 Aug 2022 20:41:15 +0000 https://americanconservativemovement.com/?p=179312 There are so many problems with the Biden-Harris regime’s attempt to cancel student debt that it’s challenging to know what to hit first. Is it even legal within the framework of the 14th Amendment? How can the executive branch make congressional budgetary decisions? Why should responsible Americans be forced to pay for the irresponsible borrowing of many of the students and parents set to receive “forgiveness”?

The biggest question in a time of full-blown economic turmoil is how in the world the regime plans on paying for it. The nation is effectively broke and borrowing massive amounts of money already. But don’t worry, y’all… it’s paid for already!

Unfortunately, she also claimed they do not know how much it’s going to cost. It’s a ludicrous statement that doesn’t take a scholar in logic to question. You cannot know that something is already paid for without knowing how much it costs. In a brief moment of clarity, even corporate media ganged up on Jean-Pierre to call her out on the contradiction. Watch:

As Bonchie noted at RedState, she was like a deer caught in the headlights:

So let me get this straight. The White House doesn’t want to “get ahead” of themselves on saying how much this ridiculous abuse of power is going to cost, but they are sure it’ll be paid for by unicorn farts and rainbows. That makes sense, right?

Truly, this nation is run by the absolute dumbest people alive. I mean, they’ve got their degrees and wall of credentials, but as far as actual intelligence, there’s precious little to be found. Jean-Pierre is the poster child for that reality in Washington, being so obviously unqualified for her job, yet doing that job with abject arrogance and rank contempt for normal Americans.

The White House has no plan here. It’s just another “pen and phone” moment without even a single thought as to the unintended consequences of dumping hundreds of billions of dollars in buying power into an economy that’s already sitting at nearly nine percent inflation. Never mind the illegality here that should lead to Biden’s impeachment and the fact that it’ll further increase the deficit. The powers that be are completely out of control, and nothing is going to rein them in except total defeat at the ballot box.

They think this will help them buy votes. Hopefully, the American people aren’t so stupid that they don’t see right through the scheme and realize that it’s going to do massive harm to the nation as a whole if it’s not stopped.
