As political tensions in the United States continue to escalate, a bold and ambitious movement is gaining traction in the Pacific Northwest: the push for Greater Idaho. This initiative aims to redraw state boundaries, allowing conservative-leaning rural counties in Oregon to join the neighboring state of Idaho. Advocates argue this realignment would better reflect the political and cultural values of these communities, currently overshadowed by the liberal policies of Oregon’s urban centers.
The Greater Idaho movement isn’t just a reactionary push against liberal policies; it’s a well-thought-out proposal that seeks to realign political representation with the cultural and ideological values of rural communities. Mike McCarter, one of the leading voices behind the initiative, has emphasized that this is about more than just politics; it’s about preserving a way of life that many feel is under threat.
“The people in rural Oregon have felt ignored and marginalized for too long,” McCarter said. “By joining Idaho, we can ensure our values and needs are properly represented.”
The concept of Greater Idaho revolves around several key arguments:
- Political Representation: Rural counties in Oregon often feel their voices are drowned out by the liberal policies of urban areas like Portland. By becoming part of Idaho, these counties would join a state that aligns more closely with their conservative values.
- Economic Benefits: Advocates argue that Idaho’s lower taxes and fewer regulations would benefit the economies of these rural areas, encouraging business growth and economic development.
- Cultural Alignment: The cultural divide between Oregon’s urban and rural areas is stark. Residents of rural counties often feel their way of life is threatened by policies that cater more to urban sensibilities. Joining Idaho would allow these communities to maintain their traditions and lifestyles without interference.
- Education and Law Enforcement: Supporters believe that Idaho’s approach to education and law enforcement is more in line with their values. They argue that the current system in Oregon imposes policies that don’t reflect their priorities, such as gun control measures and progressive education reforms.
Challenges Ahead
While the push for Greater Idaho has garnered significant support, it faces numerous challenges. The process of redrawing state boundaries is complex and requires approval from both state legislatures and the U.S. Congress. Additionally, there is opposition from those who believe that splitting the state would lead to increased polarization and logistical complications.
Critics argue that such a move could set a precedent for other regions across the country to seek similar realignments, potentially leading to a fragmented nation. However, supporters of Greater Idaho remain undeterred, believing that the benefits far outweigh the challenges.

The Path Forward
The movement for Greater Idaho continues to gain momentum, with more counties considering joining the initiative. In recent elections, several counties voted in favor of exploring the possibility of joining Idaho, signaling a growing desire for change.
As this movement progresses, it will be crucial to watch how political leaders in both states respond. The push for Greater Idaho represents a significant shift in how rural communities are asserting their rights and demanding a political landscape that reflects their values.
This movement is a testament to the enduring spirit of self-determination and the belief in a government that truly represents its people. Whether or not Greater Idaho becomes a reality, it has already sparked an important conversation about representation, governance, and the future of rural America.
It’s becoming increasingly clear that fiat currencies across the globe, including the U.S. Dollar, are under attack. Paper money is losing its value, translating into insane inflation and less value in our life’s savings.

..Arizona has the same problems…used to be a great state with conservative ideals and morals…in the last few decades we have been over run by many people moving from California that have brought their form of Socialism and ‘WOKE’ policies plus encouraging a ‘open border’ scheme to ‘enhance our culture’…now the schools are ruined by non English speaking students and under qualified Spanish peaking teachers…crime has gone through the roof in once quiet neighborhoods…we are caught between New Mexico (left leaning) and California (left leaning) and the future for Arizona looks tenuous to say the least…our WOKE Governor is very disappointing and she waffles by saying one thing and then does just the opposite that encourages more open border police policies to the determent of white conservative citizens…the state Capital is very much a Hispanic employer and only a few ‘token’ white people work there…don’t believe me, go down and walk the Capital grounds and visit any of the offices…looks like ‘green card city’ at the least…Arizona is soon to be California on steroids if it continues the path of Progressive-Socialism which continues its current core values…sad commentary for a once Great State…
Arizona….
Colorado…..
Nevada……
Utah is next.
Sad, sad, sad.
This would be the greatest nail in the coffin of wokeness ever!
Salem will never let go of the tax base. If eastern Oregon wants to cut loose, they must immediately begin withholding their tax money.
Congress has to approve any State border realignment. Wyden and Merkley have both said they will NOT support the Greater Idaho movement. They aren’t going to vote themselves out of a job.
This will NEVER happen as long as the current political climate lasts and would loose steam if this climate dissolved into something more acceptable.
Why join with Idaho at all? Just become the 51st state. We’ll get two more right leaning Senators (we hope), right? Adapt the values, laws and regulations of the state you are emulating, use ID as an example, if that’s what you want. Besides, if the extremely improbable act of separation did happen, what guarantee did you have that Idaho would let you join them? It requires acts of the state legislatures and the US congress to allow both the separation, and the combination. It will not happen. Look at the state of Liberty movement in WA state, Jefferson in CA, Northern Colorado in CO, Arrowhead in MN, UP in MI, Forgottentonia in IL, etc, etc. Not one of these state separatist movements have ever succeeded. There has been a balance to the leaning of states during the joining of the last several, ie HI and AK. No way do the left leaning legislatures of OR, WA and CA let these dominated subjects have their own pair of US Senators to shift the balance in DC to the right. IT WILL NOT EVER HAPPEN!
Let’s hope so.
Lots of states could use a map redraw !!!!
