We are seeing Minneapolis and other Democratically controlled cities moving to completely disband the police, defund them or make major cuts to their budgets.
Ilhan Omar, the Democrat Minnesota representative tweeted out that, “The Minneapolis Police Department has proven themselves beyond reform. It’s time to disband them and reimagine public safety in Minneapolis.”

First off, might I suggest that they reimagine what they want to do in replace of the police BEFORE disbanding them?
To-date, I have not heard anyone provide a coherent plan as an alternative to the police. I’ve seen a few people cite Camden, NJ, as an example of this. In reality, in that context, Camden simply replaced the city police with a county police system. Simply put, they replaced the police with the police. That’s clearly not what is being called for by the Black Lives Matter movement.
Here in California, we saw Mayor Eric Garcetti work to take $150M out of the police budget and redistribute that money towards the inner city. While guys like Bernie Sanders talk about taking money from the wealthy to give to the rich, Mayor Garcetti took things to a whole other level by taking from those risking their lives for not very much money to protect us, the citizens, to give to the inner cities. Eliminating 10% of the police budget is a significant cut. This is so far beyond progressive politics, it’s insane!
Why are we seeing all of this insanity happen?
First, we are seeing these progressive leaders negotiating with violent criminals. And by criminals, I don’t mean peaceful protestors. I mean those rioting, looting, assaulting and even murdering. I mean those that turn a blind eye to domestic terrorists like ANTIFA. Our very own government is negotiating with those promoting, or at the very least allowing, violence.
Second, we can’t get caught up in the short-term fights. We have to understand the long-game. The long-game, in my belief, is to nationalize the police force (or whatever they will replace the police with). If you look at history, the left always tried to nationalize everything, putting all control in one centralized place. This is what I believe that they are trying to do with the police. We’ve seen that with education, healthcare, economy, environment and so much more. Now it’s happening with law enforcement. This will cripple states’ rights, and put all power with the federal government.
This would be an extremely dangerous move that would essentially eliminate state control over it’s own laws & enforcement. Placing all power in the hands of a select few people in Washington DC will destroy the future of our country and allow for a tyranny unlike any we’ve ever seen in America.
As Americans who believe in the Constitution, we understand that the Founding Fathers established checks and balances to avoid tyranny. One of those was states’ rights and limiting the scope of the Federal Government. The Fed is already WAY beyond anything that the Founding Fathers intended for America, and we have to fight to ensure that this step is not taken. If we nationalize law enforcement, I don’t know how we can ever come back from that.
